First, let's get this straight. I am not recommending you just go out and buy shares of this company! Got that? [more]

This post is the rules I invest by now (all learned the hard way of course). The next post will be my current positions, which I think you all will find a bit suprising considering my past. Anyway here it is. Rec the heck out of this and I hope it helps fellow Fools and others in attaining investing success without as much of the pain. [more]

My first exposure to investing was back in the dotcom days. My brother (age 16 at the time) put all of his money into Mindspring and it tripled in one day. Then he used the money to buy a mustang and became a mini-philanthropist, only to lose it all a year or two later. At the age of 22, I knew next to nothing about investing in the stock market, but that didn't stop me from plunging in $5k into the market in mid-2008. Juding by my positions at the time, my theory was "if it's Chinese and less than .50/share, I'm buying it!". No fundamentals or analysis of any kind- I must point out that I'm from a middle class family where my parents pride themselves on not giving handouts, so this was half of the money or so I owned at the time. As you can guess, the results weren't pretty. To top things off, I left to go live on the coast of Peru for six months, so I didn't keep up with the market and had no clue that there was a crisis of any kind! I didn't know what Bear Sterns or Lehman was, the subprime mortgage mess, or anything. I just lived blissfully ignorant. [more]

I don't know where to begin, so I'll start with the purpose of this blog. Hopefully, the CAPS community should get a good laugh out of my many investing mistakes and holes I dug myself into. My journey has been- shall we say "interesting" -a rollercoaster full of highs and heartbreaks. All of my positions will be posted here too, both the wins and losses. After a year of pain, learning most everything on my own, I am finally in a position where I have learned from my mistakes (hopefully) and am getting ready for the future. I will keep posting the journey here and a bit of random thought as well. This is a good place for fools of all levels- get some laughs, people looking for transparency will find my real money positions here, and people looking to avoid dumb decisions will find benefit best. The next post will be my real life story up to this point and then today's real money positions. Cheers [more]
