Gorgeous tech - BIDU, MSFT, NTGR, SNCR, and some clothing/shoe stocks - DECK, COLM. Very nice reports. BIDU's profits are up about 100%. SNCR's eps up almost 150%. NTGR's is up "only" 66% or so. And MSFT, which has practically been given up for dead, is growing over 20%. Nice seems mild. DECK had an 86% rise in profit! DECK makes those UGG boots and those TEVA sandals. That's a whole lot of boots and sandals in that horrid 3rd quarter where everyone said the consumer wasn't buying anything! [more]

Traveling - me! Around Florida for a week, so you have warning I'm a little less focused than usual! Tech - wow, it's not just throw a dart time at these names, is it?! TXN disappoints, and tonight BRCM, JNPR and AMZN pull back. Tantalizing Tickers - a flurry of earnings often brings a few surprises. I'm sure there are lots out there, but I've found just a couple. Ugh retail! I know, right? But the time to buy tech was last Thursday and Friday, and Monday morning. I blogged about "next week's news today" last week. The deals that were to be had on CIEN and others were just fantastic. And now we're hard into great tech news - which means tech is going to get really pricey fast. Where to buy? retail. Ugh. Coach (COH) reported this morning and warned on next quarter. Did they take blame on themselves, or admit that they're a mid-tier brand that sells the majority of their wares at Macy's (the place where no one shops)? No. They said the consumer looks soft. And Target warned on October same store sales. So that's it then if you don't do your homework. The high end customer stinks, so does the low end. So just forget it. Except... [more]

"Wow! Money is flooding into tech! The tech earnings are amazing!" You can't blame the commentators on tv, radio, blogs for talking about all the bad news today - it's not new news, but it is what is happening right now. So what is happening next week - more tech! We already know how good the news is in tech. We've been hearing it for weeks from the CEO's of CIEN, CSCO, RIMM, and this week from YHOO, INTC, GOOG. [more]

ZUMZ and HMIN are two very different companies, but they both just presented to investment analysts. It's hard to get the time to listen to a presentation, and you can never hear what happened at the breakout sessions after - BUT we've got some news to use that takes just a couple minutes. Just watch the price. [more]

So first the shocking news! Amazing! Tech is back! Umm, ok, so you're not surprised. Funny how we are all not surprised - but the market trades like it is. Just a few days ago we had the "shocking" news that September retail sales were lousy. And tonight after hours Intel, IBM and Yahoo! reported earnings and GASP! two out of three were great! I heard someone say, "well, when the CEO of Cisco said it, the market didn't believe it. Now they do.." Uhh, ok, but I think we all know to keep a sharp eye on the good working tech stocks. [more]

Can't pick just one homebuilder to choose outperform on? Can't figure out which stock really is the "next Intuitive Surgical"? You just know that solar is taking off, but which is best? Well, why on earth pick just one? Pick them all for your watchlist. It's really easy - just enter them with commas between them. Watch for a few days, weeks, months - whatever makes you comfortable - and then promote them to your CAPS picks. [more]

I would like to make a special thanks to the analyst who started the big China / Tech selloff! Wow! Finally!! I'm in AAPL and RIMM and GOOG - at least in CAPS. [more]

Someone just wrote me and said, "you keep writing about BNE, but I'm just not getting it. What am I missing? And btw, I can't see that insider buying." First - don't trust Y!Finance or any other site - go right to the SEC - it's super easy - just fill in the ticker in the text box labeled: "or CIK or Ticker Symbol:" here's the link again: SEC company search. And second, a warning about stock ideas. [more]

Just as I (and everyone in their right mind) predicted - the retail index put out each month by the ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centers) was not good for September. I'm shocked! OK, I'm not, and neither are you. The question is, are you picking/buying retail stocks now or next month? Same store sales numbers will come Thursday and Friday from the individual stores. So that could be a landmine. [more]

So, there are a bunch of different ways I identify stocks that may be good trades, investments, or at least CAPS picks. And I've got a bunch here today. [more]

I know I know - I promised a blog post with great stock picks, and I also promised someone a followup on Uranium (or at least USU - which frankly looks like it may be too hard to answer), but I just realized this and I had to share! [more]

The Win a Wii Contest ends after market close on Monday! And I can't believe what nail biter it is! I'm at number 6, but even just an hour ago I was at number 7. And the race is very very tight. I've been looking at my picks - will those in the green stay green? Can my accuracy jump up 5% on Monday? What about points? [more]

Really, can Europe's slowdown be so very interesting that I write two blog posts about it in a row? Slowdown versus Inflation - which is going to win? And the European Central Bank (ECB) and the Bank of England (BOE) will be announcing what they're doing about it before our markets even open. (I think at 7 and 8:30am eastern if I'm doing the time conversion correctly.) I mostly talked about this in my blog last night. There are links from that post that link to the BOE and ECB sites. Bad news from banks? Credit crunch? Slowing consumer spending? Bad manufacturing numbers? Worst housing numbers in decades? No worries, right? No worries because ROW is going to save us. Well, it's not so rosy in the Rest Of World. [more]

Each of these companies were sold off into the end of 3rd quarter, and as soon as 4th quarter started (October 1st, Monday), they started being bought. [more]

Huge bank news this morning - bad news from Citi and others - and where does the market go? Up. Now's the time to get into some of those regional banks that were unfairly punished in the whole credit crunch fiasco. I have started on my list with banks from around my own area of Seattle. The Seattle area is one of the only housing markets in the country still growing. Therefore, our banks should come back even faster from those August lows. [more]
