Motorola going on sale again

January 21, 2010 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: MSI , GOOGL

As the "Noise" Intensifies around Motorola,It makes It hard to concentrate sometimes. If you are able to seperate the "noise" from what Is actually happening In real time, you might just come to the conclusion that (MOT) Is a nice long term buy at $7.37 or below If they want to keep selling It to me. Motorola Is a handset maker, google Is not. Googles Nexus One Is made by HTC,and sold by google on line. It's a nice little experiment, but It Is not a sustainable business model for google. As Motorola brings more Android phones to the market,Google does what? It continues selling the Nexus One on line until Its offered by actual phone companies, and then what? I just do not see any reason for google to keep competing with actual handset makers as time goes on. Don't be surprised to see google exit this strategy, and concentrate on making the Android platform better and more accessable to the handset makers. Check out this largely unnoticed press release today by (MOT) THIS IS A BIG DEAL, and I have been buying the 2012 $10.00 call options because of the ENORMOUS leverage that they have. As I have said before,I used to work for Motorola, and I have seen this scenario before, just different players Involved. Motorola Is getting their act together again, and by the time that the "HERD" figures this out,MOT will be 20 bucks again.....  It may not happen overnight, but It will happen for long term Investors that swim against the tide....    TS Motorola Announces Application Store and Ecosystem Partners for China

Topsecret calls another on Berkshire class B shares post split

January 21, 2010 – Comments (3) | RELATED TICKERS: BRK-B

On November 26,2009 I said In my blog on Berkshire that you should start accumulating shares BEFORE the split. The class B shares closed UP 4.6% after the split today, even though the dow was down over 200 points. Keep buying....... TS       http://caps.fool.com/Blogs/ViewPost.aspx?bpid=300460&t=01009917921919779399         Pitch by: topsecret09 11/27/09 10:00 AMReply | Report this postWarren Buffett who has been reluctant to split his companies stock will do just that In early 2010.Buffetts class "B" shares will split 50 for one. Look for Standard & Poors to add this company to the S&P 500 Index soon thereafter. Index funds that track the S&P 500 will Immediately begin adding this stock to their portfolios. This should give the newly split shares some POP as this unfolds. Buffet bet big on the U.S economy over the long term by purchasing Burlington Northern Railroad at a 31% premium to the stock price at the time. One of the primary reasons for the split Is to better allow the shareholders of (BNI) to take stock for the deal Instead of cash. This gives Investors like you and me the chance to own stock In one of the premiere companies of a generation, and maybe even make some extra cash along the way. I urge all fools to take advantage of this probable lucrative situation. I will be buying some of the class B shares BEFORE the split, and then add to my positions over time. Accumulating some of these shares before the split could be the way to go If you can. If you wait until after the split,I am confident you will still be richly rewarded over the long haul.... Martha Goes Mad !

January 18, 2010 – Comments (5)

"Curt Schilling Is a yankees fan", and now "I don't think Catholics should work In an Emergency Room"....  What planet Is she from?....  TS       Can she win Massachusetts by attacking Catholics and Red Sox greats?    Coakley seems to be taking this criticism to heart, because lately she has been acting CRA-ZEEE! In an interview with Ken Pittman, a host at New Bedford's WBSM-AM, she said that Catholics "probably shouldn't work in the emergency room." The Gelnmary Research Center reports (see table 6, page 2) that as of 2000, 48.7% of Massachues and Massachusettes were Catholic--a slight decline from 49.2% in 1990, but still enough to make Massachusetts the most Catholic state other than Rhode Island. According to exit polls, 53% of Massachusetts voters in 2008 were Catholic. Supporting invidious discrimination against roughly half the state's voters would seem a decidedly unmethodical way of winning an election.     http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703569004575010022034542994.html?mod=googlenews_wsj  [more]

Sell Abercrombie and Fitch, and buy Fast Retailing Now

I went to an Abercrombie & Fitch In California to see for myself what kind of clothes that they were selling, and If anyone was buying....  The clothes In the store were very ordinary and generic, but of course had the A& F label attached... There were very few people In the store, even though most everything was 30 to 50 % off....   Same store sales have been off an average of 20% for over a year. Don't walk, RUN! from this stock........   and right Into FAST RETAILING (FRCOY. The Recession Generation

January 10, 2010 – Comments (1)

We all know the type of person who came of age in the Great Depression. They are the grandmothers and grandfathers who can't use a tea bag too many times, yet are enjoying comfortable retirements in warm climates. And we know what the children of the 1950s are all about. They are the optimistic boomers who embodied an age of continual upward mobility and possibility. They have often spent more than they earned, because for them it has been a truism that times can only get better..........      Meanwhile, there's an entire body of research to show that recession babies not only invest more conservatively, they tend to make less money, choose safer jobs, and believe in wealth redistribution and more government intervention.........     http://www.newsweek.com/id/229959  [more]

Abercrombie and Fitch Is In deep trouble

January 07, 2010 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: ANF

Abercrombie and Fitch same store sales down 22 %  AGAIN and AGAIN  and AGAIN  !! Why Is this stock still over 30 bucks a shareMy pitch from November...  Pitch by: topsecret09 11/17/09 6:57 PMReply In this recession, there are struggling apparel retailers all across the country. Then there's Abercrombie & Fitch. The upscale teen retailer has suffered 10 straight months of double-digit same-store-sales declines. In the second quarter of 2009 alone, sales were down an eye-popping 30% across the company's three name outlets: the flagship Abercrombie brand, which has 567 stores; Hollister, a 520-store teen chain; and Ruehl, a 29-store chain for young adults that Abercrombie shut down in June. Abercrombie & Fitch lost $26.7 million, which includes $24.4 million in charges associated with the closing of Ruehl, in the second quarter. During the same period in 2008, Abercrombie scored a $77.8 million profit. "Abercrombie has mismanaged this economic downturn more than any other retailer," says Britt Beemer, CEO of America's Research Group, a retail consulting firm.
Profit for the three months that ended Oct. 31 fell to $38.8 million, or 44 cents per share, or 30 cents per share excluding one-time items. That beat the average expectation of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters for adjusted earnings of 20 cents per share.
Revenue fell to $765.4 million, squeaking past analyst expectations of $764.5 million. Expenses fell 16 percent.
Sales in stores open at least a year, a key measure of a retailer's health, dropped 22 percent. This seems like a classic short squeeze run-up,and cannot continue. I will short this stock all the way to the bank. They are not even making enough money to cover their dividend !!   [more]

The lost decade In the stock market

January 03, 2010 – Comments (9)

A prior post that I had on this subject was deleted with no explanation, this one may differ but the points made will be the same...  Being In denial of what historically occured will not help an Investor as the future unfolds. One needs to learn from the past so the same mistakes are not repeated. I tend to disagree with all of the market gurus that say diversification Is the magic way to riches. Whle I do believe In diversification up to a point,I am convinced that you need to allocate a majority of your portfolio to the two or three stocks that you really have a strong opinion on. For the year I had 7 stocks down and (3) that were up,but the three that were up comprised 75% of my portfolio. I started In May with $40,000.00,and ended the year with my portfolio worth $63,000.00, a 55% gain for the year. Enter the lost decade........  Knowing when to hold them, and knowing when to fold them Is very relevent to an Investors success as the article states... TS   The Lost Decade For US StocksPosted by: The Capital Spectator  Links to this post US Stocks were the worst asset class over the past decade with an abysmal 0.1% 10-year annualized total return, the worst performance in 200 years. US Stocks provided lower returns than cash while emerging market stocks returned over 10% and commodities over 7%. See the following post from The Capital Spectator.

The 2000s have been the worst decade for U.S. stocks in 200 years, reports yesterday's Wall Street Journal.   Enter Pacific Ethanol.
