You can take CAPS with you that is! Help us to test our new CAPS widgets which let you take Motley Fool CAPS player, video and editorial content to your web site or blog.
We'll be launching our new widgets next week, but you can preview them by following the instructions below. Any beta feedback would be most helpful to me and the CAPS team.
Here are 2 example widgets that we will roll out next week:
CAPS Top Ten Videos:
<script type="text/javascript">SWFFormFix = function(){if(navigator.appName.toLowerCase() != "microsoft internet explorer"){return true;}var objects = document.getElementsByTagName("object");if(objects.length == 0) return true;for(i=0;i<objects.length;i++){if(objects[i].data.indexOf("clearspring") != -1){window[objects[i].id] = objects[i];}}var out = '';return true;}</script>
<object width="180" height="497" data="http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/463b66d8ee96fd5a/464f4044903d3f86/463b66d8ee96fd5a/3acc4050" id="W464f4044903d3f86" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/463b66d8ee96fd5a/464f4044903d3f86/463b66d8ee96fd5a/3acc4050" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /></object>
<script type="text/javascript">SWFFormFix();</script>
You'll notice that we display Motley Fool article content underneath the video. Our CAPS widgets make an attempt to figure out what type of content is on the page hosting the widget, and display the most relevant Foolish content for that page.
It's really simple to drop this widget into your page. Just click on the grab it button to click-to-add to one of the supported blogger sites, or click on the Email or Embed links to grab the code required to drop into your web site.
CAPS Player Quick Stats:
Here's mine:
<object width="410" height="325" data="http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/463763f8442c2047/464f4044300880c1/463763f8442c2047/50b41c22/playerId/01122484080623683728" id="W464f4044300880c1" allowScriptAccess="always" allowNetworking="all" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="movie" value="http://widgets.clearspring.com/o/463763f8442c2047/464f4044300880c1/463763f8442c2047/50b41c22/playerId/01122484080623683728" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /></object>
<script type="text/javascript">SWFFormFix();</script>
To take your own Quick Stats with you or to take the Quick Stats of another player, you will need to modify the Embed code that you can copy from my version of this widget. Within the embed code, you would simply replace the number that comes after references to playerId/01122484080623683728 with the number of the CAPS player that you want to display. If you don't know your own CAPS player number, log out of CAPS and then search on your player name. You'll see a URL that looks like:
http://caps.fool.com/ViewPlayer.aspx?t=01000000000103882559
The number that comes after "t=" is your player number.
If all this sounds terribly confusing, wait until we roll out our widgets on CAPS next week. You'll see a "Grab It" button on your player page that makes it one-click simple to take CAPS with you.
But if you are looking for adventure, help us to test the CAPS widgets today.
Fool on!

Have you seen the latest new entry from the CAPS user generated video contest on Votigo? The cast of an Atlanta kids' show "Uncle Grampa's Hoo Dilly Storytime", Phinneas J. Monkey, Lil' Tomo the Robodot, and Fritz the Evil Butler pitch the fairy tale story of Friendly Ice Cream. Clearly, in some small way, CAPS has changed the world for the better: [more]
