This Market is going to grind everyone to the core.

The shorts are getting scorched (see my CAPS score plummet) and the longs are buying every bump in the road and losing focus. Since fundamentals don't seem like a reliable indicator these days I have turned to studying TA...along with many others. I appreciate both and hope to continue learning about this wonderfully complex barometer of our progress.

When I weigh everything with my gut something tells me that we still have to capitulate. For better or worse. Too many people yearn to ride the beast. The bull will gore and the bear will maul. Some folks will make some money and claim bragging rights at the end of the match but I doubt any of us will feel that it was as good or bad as we imagined. What will be next?

Sometimes it may be better not to have all of the answers. Should we Surrender and be Free? Or strap ourselves to our beast and ride proudly to our demise?

Why do so many players appear to think that it is "longs vs. shorts" in the "caps" game?

The winners/losers in an uptrend (and the losers/winners in an downtrend) are the "long/short high beta" and "short/long low beta" picks.

(... because the scoring system uses a benchmark (the S&P 500 index))

(A "long/short high beta pick" is an "outperform"/"underperform" call on a high beta (vs. the benchmark) stock or ETF.)

It's not good to be a bear or bull. You need to be both as conditions warrent. I flip back and forth frequently--I wouldn't be in the top 10 if I didn't. Right now I'm a bear, but once we get back to the 600s I will again be a bull. Trade the pendulum, back and forth...
