My Take on Solar vs Wind

In order to put up wind turbines for energy production, one should live near a power grid.  Sure, you can have one in your yard if your county or state permits (some places dont want you getting "free" power, like Texas (hmm wonder WHY??)), but you'll be investing MILLIONS of dollars AND you have to maintain them which is costly.  They are noisy if you live close to one and your neighbors may compalin about noise and the obstruction of their view.  In addition, everyone will know you have one- it will be seen from blocks away.  In addition, if you want to  "make" money from it, you will need to live near a power grid.  you will be taxed on what you produce :)

Solar:  Easy and FAR CHEAPER to install.  You dont need to live neat a grid.  AND you wont be taxed on the power you generate.  It's really FREE once its installed.

Now do you see why wind energy is being advertised and promoted over solar?

You need wind to produce wind energy and you need solar to produce solar energy.  The sun shines everywhere folks.  Dont think you need to live in California to have power energy work for you.  It's worth checking out.

I know I'm late to comment on this blog, but I didn't see it until now. I think you are vastly oversimplifying the issue by saying "solar is everywhere", therefore solar is better than wind.

From what I have seen, wind energy is much more economically feasible than solar. Wind already accounts for a significant percentage of the total energy production of several countries (Denmark, and a couple others in Europe). The same cannot be said for solar. Solar does not seem to be nearly as viable for large-scale energy production. This is why windmills are now being built like crazy all over Europe, the US, and recently, China. Companies like Nordex and Vestas can hardly keep up with all their orders.

And they are not noisy at all, BTW. They kill a lot of birds, I will admit that... but noise is not a problem.
