Or  why you should be like Joan Rivers and not Annie Duke.

So I watched the 3 hour finale of Celebrity Apprentice last night were Joan Rivers beat out Annie Duke for the top spot. It occurred to me that the best player of the "advertised" competition did not win. I think it was Annie Duke. BUT Joan Rivers won the unadvertised competition - which is why she is the celebrity apprentice. Joan Rivers and Piers Morgan - last years winner share a common theme. They both have the abilty to make Donald Trump more famous - via their network of show business connections. Joan Rivers might be a bit of joke to some people, but it's clear she is well liked in some circles and VERY connected. Piers Morgan seemed an unlike choice - some obscure Brit producer, but again clears VERY connected. Both the runners-up were excellent in their field - Trace Atkins in country music and Annie Duke in Poker. Neither could help Donald be more famous.

It's not about raising money for Charity or Annie would have won, because she is well liked among Poker players who are (right now) very wealthy and don't care about money - it's just a way to keep score, so they willingly anted up for Annie's cause. Poker (just listen to Joan Rivers comments) is seen as slightly disreputable in some quarters. Poker players also seem to be looking for an amount of respectability that is going to be hard to come by because Gamblers are of course all degenerate*.

Annie could not win. The deck was stacked and she was playing the wrong game - she was playing the game she was told she was playing, not the "bigger" unspoken game Donald was playing.

CAPS is a game. But there is a bigger unspoken game, CAPS as a game creates information that can be used to WIN at the bigger unspoken game - the real stockmarket played with real money. CAPS and Celebrity Apprentice are alike in this fashion. Make sure you win like Joan Rivers in the CAPS game, not Annie Duke.

* Disclosure - I like to gamble and play poker. I would not like to play poker with Annie Duke, because I would NOT be the best player at the table and that's not a good spot to be in. On the other hand I would love to play poker with Annie Duke because some lessons are worth paying for.

I am very on board with this sentiment. Good analogy :)

I have no issue with the analogy, but I'm a little troubled that you watched the 3-hour finale of celebrity apprentice.  ;)
