Now that children are back to school, some of the parents at my office are industriously looking for bugs. Those who don't have 7th graders ( the grade here where the bug collection is for) are still looking for those who do. I suspect this science project is in the nature of a review for parents and their friends as to what is a bug, and what is not a bug (hint spiders don't qualify, usually it must be insects only), and which bugs are most desirable. Don't let your child be humilated by having the fewest and least varieties of bugs. Show your children that you care by taking them to a bug rich abandoned field or enlist your co-workers/employees to help. Janitors are bug finding specialists. There is nothing like a successful, interesting project which involves everyone and raises morale:) Those who live up North have even less of a window for bug collecting. Don't delay!

Well, I got a bug to contribute to the cause of education. I was on a nature walk yesterday afternoon. My father-in-law spotted this already dead upside down beetle with an iridescent forest green underbelly. It looked something like a Japanese Beetle, but it was much bigger than they usually are.
