I've been part of the CAPS community for about a week now, after following this site for about 6 weeks prior to joining CAPS, and have found the blogs of other users very insightful. It's interesting to see the different investment approaches of people, from speculative to long-term, what kind of products people invest in and why. It has certainly broadened my horizon within US and emerging market equities and opportunities I was not aware of earlier.

I have been investing for about 10 years now (buy and hold) and through trial and error have found my prefered approach to investing, but have become more active in my portfolio management since december 2008, when I opened an additional investment account (for 35 years, long term investing until retirement) with about 10.000 Euro's starting capital. Current this investment account stands at about 14.800-14.900 Euro's of which 85% was invested at the beginning of this month. I've sold some positions within the last 2 weeks, so I'm currently at about 62,5% invested capital and 37,5% cash.

Part of my monthly savings are directed into this account, so it will grow as time goes on and therefore I'm always interested in feedback from other investors on future investments ideas, regardless if it's stocks, funds, commodities, etc. I never put more then a maximum 1.000 Euro or 1.250 US dollars into one specific investment, so I'm pretty diversified. Your feedback and ideas are always appreciated, also for the future. Herewith my current holdings:

I was thinking about investing in ING. But I've been spooked by financial stocks recently. Since you live in the same country as ING has its corporate office, I assume you may be much more familiar with its "local" reputation.

The one NV stock I currently own is Philips Electronics PHG. Wide product diversification.

However, I also have Unilever UL which has a Netherlands branch.

What I value most that your country produces is its gorgeous tulips. The best tulips in the world still come from the Netherlands. I often purchase bulbs as a gift for my mother's birthday:)

I would not recommend buying ING stock @ this point. Like many other financial institutions the stock price has risen substantially and this point I would even consider selling it if I have it.

What I do have as indicated is a ING sprinter. This one goes up when the DOW rises and vice-versa. They have produced some nice profits on the way up for me, but of course they can be knocked-out when the DOW where to move back to its stop-loss of 8990, but then I would go back to a long 8200 DOW sprinter.

I would be careful with Philips as the consumer electronics market may cause some problems for them in 2010, but the have diversified during the last few years, into medical equipement for example. This indeed has increase their profit margins.

Unilever is a world wide name from the Netherlands, just like Royal Dutch Shell. Good buys those 2.

Thanks for your reply and caution about Philips. I do like the annual dividend but I will not add to my long position at this time.

Glad for your insight on ING. Like many I have been bitten by financials but not as badly as I could have. I owned BAC at $54 and sold at $10. At least the loss I sustained will help me with this years taxes.

Yes, I'm happy with UL products so I thought why not invest and get a virtual coupon :). Unilever has a diversified product line for certain. IBDvalueinvestin has an interesting blog about how Unilever recently acquired part of Sara Lee.  http://caps.fool.com/Blogs/ViewPost.aspx?bpid=265300&t=01004525939372753684
