War With Iran

Iran has refused to allow discussions with anyone re its' nuclear program. This opens the door to who knows what. I am at a loss as to the total repercussions this will have on the stock market. Oil up or down, commodities up or down, stocks up or down? Will this spur employment in the war machine of the economy?

What will Isreal do, send fighters to destroy the Iranian nuclear facilities and incur the rath of allied American response for flying over protected air space. Wow, just when things were starting to pick up here in the US.

Stock up on canned goods, water and bullets. You may be able to sell them for a profit if you don't need them. You have to love capitalism...

Isreal will take care of the problem eventually.  We'll condemn them publicly but not really care much.

Americans buying canned goods and water as if the war is going to be over here in the US are just stupid.  We fight our wars overseas, not here.

Iranians might want to buy canned goods and water.  While they're at it they might want to stock up on some personal hygiene supplies, but that's just my opinion.

Iran has a pretty decent army & air defense, so unless Israel has stealh planes of its own, the US would probably have to give a hand when it comes to taking out facilities. Cruise missiles probably wouldn't have enough of an impact and groundtroops are a disaster in that region and layout.

Personally I don't think the current administration is very keen on military action anyway, so in the end this situation will have to be resolved by dialogue, but probably this status quo will remain for the foreseeable future. Also you have the Russians & Chinese to deal with and they have their own interest when it comes to Iran.

Iraq was the weakest of the axis of evil and look at what happened when the Rumsfeld thought he could roll over them handily with fewer troops. Iran would be tougher, N Korea tougher still.

And probably not with Obama in White House.

After 2012 election things could change quickly if a new GOP president gets in, and policy changes once again.

jstegma... my statement about buying water etc was a hyperbole. All Mid East incursions affect our market and by extension, our economy. Your on the money re the personal hygiene.

Bluebird76... this current administration is the reason Iran is flexing its muscles. Obama told Iran he is on their team for all intents and purposes. Russia and China have already said they will not endorse any sanctions. I hope they change their stance.

biotechmgr... I am hoping for a 2010 turnover in the Congress. It will help slow down this bunch of clowns in the White House until 2012 GOP roust.

Let's hope for the best regardless...

We are in cahoots with China to keep oil prices down for awhile, and now Russia regarding regional security.  This is going to be a one week war from the air as there is going to be cooperation on setting Iran's military and weapons programs back a decade while the coup happens.

Bunker busters will get the job done.

My opinion is that we should probably quit talking and just sorta go quiet on Iran until we are ready to act.  We should simply say what we want to say - "we won't allow you to build nukes" - and then shut up.  All this talk of sanctions is just a waste of time.  They won't work.

Probably the best idea is just to quit talking, even after we bomb them.  Don't even claim responsibility, much less telegraph what we intend to do going forward.  Make them beg us to come to the negotiating table.
