Top 10 Songs About Money

Recs

13

October 14, 2009 – Comments (24)

As I found out with a Google search, the top songs about money list has been done many times before...but there's nothing saying I can't do it better!

I've made a playlist of the Top 10 for your enjoyment here (signup to imeem is free)...unfortunately, I had to use a cover version of #1.

Without further ado:

10) Take the Money and Run – Steve Miller Band

9) Money For Nothing – Dire Straits

8) If You’ve got the money, I’ve got the time – Willie Nelson

All three are vying for the official song of Wall Street...my favorite unintentionally appropriate line about high finance from Steve Miller: "He makes his livin off of the peoples taxes"

7) Fortunate Son – Creedence Clearwater Revival

So angry. So awesome.

6) Opportunities (Let’s Make Lot’s of Money) – Pet Shop Boys

Was #1 on the charts in March 2009.

5) Can’t Buy Me Love – The Beatles

4) Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems – Notorious B.I.G.

If this recession has taught us anything, money ain't THAT important.

3) Sell Out – Reel Big Fish

That said...

2) If I Had a Million Dollars – Barenaked Ladies

Contrarians love green dresses.

1) Money Talks – AC/DC

It's like a love song to the advantages of money.

B-Sides (Songs that didn't make the cut, but maybe should have)

Money, Money, Money – ABBA

She Works Hard for the Money – Donna Summer

I Wanna Be Rich – CallowayMoney – Pink Floyd

Ride Wit Me – Nelly (Hey, must be the money!)

All About the Benjamins – P Diddy

Life’s Been Good - Joe Walsh

About 20 other songs from AC/DC (Back in Black, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, etc.)

What have I missed?

- DJ A...aka Anand Chokkavelu...aka TMFBomb

How about just "Money" by Pink Floyd?  or is that the one you referred to above?

There's also  "I want it all" by Queen.

But above all else...  "Busted" by Johnny Cash.

Yeah, I was surprised Pink Floyd's Money didn't make your cut.

Props to Reel Big Fish's Sell Out though.

"If you've got the money..." by Willie Nelson!?!?!  You young, unknowledgable wipper snappers.  The original and best was by Hank Williams.  (And no, NOT Hank, Jr.!)  Geez! -1 Rec. ;)

All About the Benjamins – P Diddy. Come on. That should have made the top 10. Excellent post on an excellent day.

How do you like your bear? Medium rare or charred on a spit? I prefer the second choice. Oh wait, mine isn't charred enough, let me get some more gasoline. HAHAHAHAHAHA

@All Pink Floyd fans,

Money only made the B sides...why? Because I really don't like Pink Floyd...ducking for cover now.

@outoffocus,

Yeah, I ran across that one...should have put it on the B sides...arguably Top 10 except I never loved the song (or its many covers).

@cthomas1017,

What can I say...Willie does everything better...

What about "I Wanna Hold Your Hand?" Albeit it's more focused on *big* money geopolitical stuff. Historically relevant: Darned "Lenon"ists always trying to get a look at our poker hand (ie, secrets) back in the day. On top of that it's a perfect trading song: Everybody's always trying to put the "touch" on one another. I think in modern lingo, this would be the equivalent of getting "served."

Did anyone say "You never give me your money" by the Beatles?

And who can forget "Gimme some money" by Spinal Tap?
Sample lyric: "Do I have to come flat out and tell you everything? Gimme some money!!"
