Rant: Fleming did not need a government grant to discover penicillin. Just needed the wisdom to know that when he left the petri dish open, he changed the equation and his observation went on to save hundreds of millions of lives. There is no problem in this world that some american in a backyard garage cant solve.

Disclosure- I bought IDEXX at 30 and sold at 50 when a mutual fund I own invested in it. Why duplicate and I bought ERII instead which was founded by a norwegian working on a solution for his brothers farm

It a previous rant I had suggested that water will be a significant issue. I initially purchased IDEXX because they have rapid tests and the probability of outbreaks in water contaminiation are likely to increase as we remain urbanized with populations increasing, a 24 hour news cycle, and a world population with increasing consumption demands.

What I also noticed was that IDEXX has had a rapid test for H1N1 for years. Not for humans, but animals. Good idea because vetinary is a cash business and lower chance of being sued. Back when we were serfs our ancestors had a couple goats. Fast foward to today and we have the mass concentration of livestock to support people who no longer live on farms.

A few years ago I was failing out of medical school on a beautiful island and I remember a conference I went to where a nurse/lawyer suggested the nurses on the island get into shape because tourists and people relocating will have a greater expectation of care. Same with food safety- we have had the FDA here in the USA for a while- I imagine places like China and India will be putting greater standards as they continue to modenize. Idexx has a product that is demanded as well as positioning through overseas sales offices.

Just a thought
