I don't know who's heard about this story, but what basically happened was that a 12 year old little league pitcher was hit by a baseball in 2003 and died of heart failure. Apparently, his loving parents somehow associated this freak accident with the metal bats used by almost all little league's around the country.
So, rather than appealing for their district's little league to switch to the use of wooden bats, these loving parents did what any good person would do, file a lawsuit against the maker of the aluminum bats. And, what do you know, the jury awarded these good hearted parents with $850,000 to fill the void left in their hearts by the loss of a loved one because the bat company apparently "failed to adequately warn about the dangers the product poses". What a great country we live in, where all problems can be solved by the trial bar, any loss of happiness can easily be recompensated with a wad of cash, and where life is apparently too dangerous to be sold without a "warning" sticker.
What really pisses me off is that these people act like there saints. "We just want to save someone else's life," the Mother said. EFFING BULL.
In the end, this sort of stuff pisses me off so much because it shows how messed up our system truly is (see: Malpractice). Everyone feels as if they have some sort of "privilege", and our extremely slanted legal system has ensured that bloodsucking lawyers can manipulate our idiotic juries into voting for the "little guy" and standing up against those "big evil corporations", "greedy doctors", and other evil people (see: People with jobs).
