HD Plasma TV and BluRay DVD Player for Christmas? Here's how to do it (and mount it)

Recs

I have eight plasma TVs.  Four are wall mounted by me.  Three are table mounted.  All are connected to DVD players or DVD/VCR player/recorders, in addition to DirecTV.

I'd be happy to share what and how I'd buy today and how I'd mount it.  However, I'm somewhat chastened by a couple of negative reactions to non-investing CAPS blogs.  Guess some FOOLS objected to the pancakes blog.

If you want me to write such a blog, I am happy to do so but I have to know it's of interest and not objectionable to the "investments-only" crew.  If you want it, rec this.  Over 30 permits me to do it.

Frankly, I couldn't care less about recs, but I don't want to pollute the board with unwanted stuff.

I own an LCD TV myself.  I've heard plasma has the best picture, but I was too scared of image burn.  I've heard of the DVD you can buy that uses every pixel on the screen without burning anything onto any of them that you must use for many hours to avoid image burn in the future, but it sounded like a drag to me.  I've also heard that image burn is much less pronounced these days.  Nevertheless, I bought my TV a long time ago and I'm happy with it.  Are my fears of plasma irrational?

I just bought a cheap projector Saturday.  Under $600 and I'm watching a 7-foot wide image on my living room wall.  I can project a wider image but the image quality starts to suffer if the image is too large.

Donnernv, knock yourself out and write to your hearts content. If you were commenting on their blog, perhaps they wouldn't like for you to hijack the topic ... but on your own blog, I'd say "Go for it."  And I would find the topic informative and possibly helpful.

Bull:

The burn-in problem with plasmas is now a non-issue.  I have never seen it on any of my plasmas.  Notwithstanding that, the plasma I will recommend has two modes for avoiding/curing it (I would never bother to use either, although they are available).

Fear not.

Number 8 was mounted on a backboard in a closed home theater cabinet by a "professional" as part of a larger project including surround speakers, etc.

Boy was that expensive.  I decided I'd learn how to mount them myself.  It's really not hard.

I threw my LCD away and bought a plasma.

It is a Panasonic Viera, very dynamic image. Miles ahead of the LCD.

The lifetime of my LCD was very short. Plasmas now have a longer longevity than LCDs.

My mom had a 50" Samsung LCD for about 5 years before the picture tube died on it.  I wasn't thrilled about that since I bought myself a Samsung LCD a little over a year ago.

Has any body else had a problem with the power button going out on there Tvs. This is the second one I've had a problem with and the only common denominator is that I use the Comcast digital remote to turn them on.

Thanks

#13 - The button on the TV stops working and you don't even use it?

I mean, it sounds like what you're saying is that you use a remote to turn the TV off/on.  At some point, you use the button on the TV itself and it doesn't work?

The on/off function stopped working on the remote first, So thats when I was trying to turn T.V on manually.

It's like the remote short curcuited the On/Off function

I should pobably add that its a 46" Samsung LCD. 2 yrs old.

At first it would just make that clicking noise before the chime of the TV going on sounded (This was while still using the Comcast remote) This started taking longer and longer.

So thats when I got the idea of turning on manually. Same deal until today where it will not turn on at all.

The reason I tie the remote into this is because my last tv was a 32" box model. And the same thing happened did'nt think much about it since  I had that one for awhile and was a nice excuse to get a Flat- screen.

Common denominator the All On button.
