McCain's Trophy Veep

Great blog on McCain's choice for VP.

http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/08/29/sarah-palin-mccains-next-trophy-girl/

Evidently having a hot sugar momma as a wife wasn't enough.  McCain stepped it up and announced a highly endowed, er, I mean qualified Governess as his VP.  Way to go McCain, show those Obama supporters that you're right, you don't need any real experience to make it on the ticket.

The blogger in your link is a dope. He tries to rip Palin as having lack of experience. THAT IS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM WITH OBAMA!!!

The big difference being that he is going for president, and she just VP.

I love it. Dems are probably crapping their pants right now.

Palin actually is more seasoned than OBAMA.

As to the Obama no experience, his winning the other party's nomination speaks for itself.

Kudos on Mccains flexibility and decision making.

The Dems will argue unsucessfully that Palin lacks the economic skills. But hey just being a mom and raising 5 kids all the while running an entire state plus returning to work within 3 days after giving birth, well if that isn't real world experience what is /

Oh sure make fun and discriminate against her because she looks good, but she also speaks well and gets the job done.

The dems are looking scared and weak.

Especially given the Republican VP actually has better experience than the DEMS presidential nominee.

I bet Hillary is pissed and will say I told you so.

FYI the Clintons aren't voting Obama in the booth.

True, but who is the lion and who is the chicken this year?

My take: this pick is a losers move. McCain has been hammering home the themes that global terrorism is the transcendent challenge of our time, and that Obama lacks the experience to lead in a dangerous world. McCain just gave away his two advantages in the race--national security and experience.

If national security were so important, if global terrorism were really the "transcendent challenge of our time" why would he pick someone who has no national security experience and no experience in foreign affairs.

If experience were so important in these troubled times, why would he pick someone who has only 20 months running the government of a state with a population of 650,000 people? Before that, she was the mayor of a town of 5,000 people. She has a bachelor's degree in communications and doesn't even have any private sector experience that I'm aware of. Jesse Ventura had a better resume when he ran for governor of Minnesota.

So, if McCain dies, is she really the person you want sitting across from Putin or trying to disarm Iran? (I know you'd rather have any Republican than Obama, but you have to believe there were far more qualified people available for the "dangerous world" that we live in.)

That said, she has a compelling biography and has be laudable in her efforts to fight corruption in her state. If she were a political natural like Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan, she could spin it into something. Did you see her speech when she was announced as the pick? It looked like McCain was introducing the new school principle, and she spoke like one. Nice lady, not ready to be president. Perhaps the worst VP pick of all time (aside from that General Ross Perot picked who said "Who am I? Why am I here? during the VP debate.)

Sorry guys, but McCain just lost the election.

I posted the blog because I though it would spark up some interesting debate.

Whether you're a democrate or a republican, inexperience can no longer be an argument used against the other ticket.  If we can't agree on that, than do us both a favor stop reading right now.

Palin is obviously an attempt to win over disillusioned Hillary supporters.  As a bonus, McCain gains ground with crazy a$$ evangelicals with her creationist, pro-life views.

Is there anyone out there that thinks that Palin is the most qualified for the job?  If so, let me know who you are and what kinds of drugs you are on.  Is Biden the most qualified for the job?  Hell no.

Both VP candidates were strategically chosen to pander to a select demographic  - Palin to super right wingers and chicks;  Biden to old white dudes with wrinkly balls.

Please stop saying Palin has more political experience than Obama, if you truly believe that backwoods politics in Alaska equals the little experience that Obama has dealing with people in Washington, than again, wtf are you smoking?

Exactly.

To use a poker analogy, there are moves you make from strength and moves you make from weakness.  This is a move from weakness.

Up to this point, I think McCain was doing a tremendous job competing against a massively popular Democrat during the administration of a massively unpopular Republican.

The choice of Palin out of the clear blue sky reaks of desperation.  This was the best Republican he could find?

The Dems aren't trembling; they're laughing!

Mccain has shown his ability to make non traditional votes unlike OBama who painted himself into a corner by being forced to pick Biden to counteract all his inexperience and greenness and the fact that its true he is not ready yet, much to democrats dis belief.

Palin will help in reforming Mccains energy plan and will help his Maverick status in seeking to reform and fix bad government.

Honestly does Mccain need another Vice president yes man ? does Mccain need another foreign security expert as a VP ?

Certainly not.

Intangibles, not only is she competent, but she looks good, as much as many would like to dismiss many men will vote for her simply because shes attractive. Meanwhile many women both career and stay at home moms can relate to her.

At the end of the day people vote for the president and the vice president is often just an afterthought.

This time it may look to be more of a forethought and this benefits Mccain more than it hurts.

The election is Obamas to lose and hes been losing every day since it would seem.

saunafool  Palin has worked in the private sector.

SHe also has been a working mom, her son is in Iraq.

Her results are what matters and her results have been real good.

This is spot on. However, I really want to meet the woman who would support Hillary, then turn around and vote for McCain because he selected a token woman who is a creationist, pro-life, evangelical.

The cynical transparency of this pick suggests that one woman is as good as any other. It is going to backfire unless her future appearances are 10X more impressive than her first foray into the public eye.

How is this acceptable? You are the same people that will then criticize others in the future for similar behaviour.

Then you have those that rip Palin for being a creationist and pro-lifer. You speak negatively of people with these viewpoints in a very hateful way, assumning that people with these views are crazy.

That is insulting to me. You basically rip all Christians and Pro-lifers. Nice tolerance to others' views.

I am Christian, so I guess I'm crazy. Look at the founding of this country and what all the founding fathers said about God, religion, and the way they are the rock of everything the founders built the country on.

So, according to our founders views, Palin would fit their IDEAL example of someone having the right values and morals.

There are too many blog streams littered with conservatives and liberals noting irrelevant points and insulting each other and the candidates.  By definition, half of the people in the US have double digit IQs.  Why do so many of them populate these boards?

Sadly, this has now slopped over to a CAPS blog.  This is a pile of crap, and is irrelevant to reality.

It doesn't matter who is elected.  The next government (executive and legislature) are facing the greatest collective set of problems we've ever faced.  I shan't list them.  Read Alstry's "sky is falling" daily screed to see them all.

But Alstry is (overblown, screamingly, daily numbingly) correct.  The consequence of this should be obvious.  No administration is going to "change" this pile of doo-doo.  It's a ten-twenty year job for intelligent, committed, supported leaders.

But politics is about the next fundraiser, the next campaign, the next election.  There is no time nor power available to any elected official(s) in this political environment.

So what will happen?  The "leaders" will respond to the inexorable pressures of our world and our economy by rushing from crisis to crisis, passing short-term legislation designed to show they are "doing something" for the "hard-working American family".

The vast majority of this short-term, ill-considered crap will do exactly nothing to solve the real challenges.  Only REAL crisis will get anything useful done, when it may be too late to adjust to the real problems.

One simple but illustrative example.  Can any informed person disagree with the fact that crude oil is finite and that demand (world-wide) is monotonically growing?  If you disagree, you are not well-informed.  Google "peak oil" and learn.  It is the most important problem for the world.  Go ahead, blow four or five hours learning.

Can any informed person disagree with the fact that sooner or later (probably sooner) the energy for transportation must come from somewhere else?  Can any informed person disagree with the fact that the only big-time scalable source to fill this need is electricity?  If you believe in ethanol or hydrogen fuel cells or natural gas or liquified coal, you are not informed.  Google them and learn.

And can any informed person disagree with the fact that the only baseline grid scalable electricity source is nuclear?  Coal, which we'll use plenty of, will not pass environmental muster.  Natural gas for electricity is an absurd notion.  It is far, far too valuable to burn.

Solar?  Wind?  Geothermal?   Wonderful, well-meaning.  Green.  But nowhere near enough to fill a significant fraction of baseline grid needs.  And certainly nowhere near enough to shoulder the burden of replacing fossil fuel for transportation.

This is one example of a massive problem we (and the world) are facing.  What is needed?   Shortcut==>rubberstamp applications to build plants with previously vetted/tested reactors.  Government backed loans and liability insurance for the utilities building nuclear plants.  Absolutely necessary.

Debate nuclear with me.  But be very certain that I know a hell of a lot more about it than you do.

Will the politicos do what is required?  No.  They don't have the power.  Will they when the cars run out of gas and the lights start flickering off?  Probably.  I hope it's not too late.  Oh, and pray every night for A123 (the company).
