5 minutes agoCon-way center closures trimmed 1,450 jobs, 8% of workforce - MarketWatch

I went to lunch with a buddy of mine today who owns a trucking company.  He told me how amazing it was how many companies are shutting down for the last week or two of the year.

Is America shutting down as Obama is becoming president?

Plant after plant idling workers as we end the year.

Dow Chemical Getting Rid of 11% of its remaining workforce.  Media companies on the brink of bankruptcy.  Now we are hitting transportation companies......airline, autos, banks, builders, retailers, restaurants, manufacturers.....the shutdown is moving along and spreading.......

And the pundits say we hit the bottom????........Watch out for the Spring!!!!!!

I guess some media companies are not on the brink anymore...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Media conglomerate Tribune Co., smothered by $13 billion in debt and a drop-off in advertising, on Monday became the first major newspaper publisher to seek bankruptcy protection since the Internet sent the industry into a tailspin.

The bankruptcies keep growing and growing.....

5:00 p.m.  Level 3 Communications to cut 450 jobs, 8% of workforce

Pretty soon, we may get to the point where there may not be 8% of the population working...but I doubt it.

I think we're getting a nice rally with all the talk about bailouts and so forth, but these jobs numbers are killers. The last jobs number didn't seem to rattle the market very much, but I want to see what happens when the Dec numbers come out in Jan, and we're past the holiday season. I think we'll see the return of a bear in a big way after the new year starts and we start to see some new numbers.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Budweiser brewer Anheuser-Busch InBev said Monday it will cut 1,400 U.S. jobs, about 6% of its total U.S. workforce.

The cuts come just a few weeks after InBev's $52 billion takeover of Anheuser-Busch Cos. on Nov. 18.

The Belgian brewer said 75% of the positions being cut are at corporate headquarters in St. Louis. More than 250 open positions will not be filled, the company said.

An additional 415 contractor positions will be pruned from the payroll, the company said. Most of the reductions will occur before 2009.

That's another 2065 jobs by my count...and they'll all be gone IN THE NEXT 23 DAYS!!!
