A Few Retail Tidbits (And Some Ketchup)

February 05, 2010 – Comments (4) | RELATED TICKERS: BGPIQ.DL , HNZ.DL

While I sit here awaiting the DC area Snowpocalypse, I thought I'd post a few retail articles from yesterday.

First of all, Buyer Beware on Borders, which surged on Wednesday due to positive comments from Bill Ackman. Like your mom used to say, if so-and-so jumped off a bridge, would you? I think it's pretty Foolish to carefully weigh what other people say and just not automatically agree because they are who they are. But I know we're good at that around these parts!

I also had to take the January comps results with a grain of salt and suggest that investors shouldn't bank on a retail rebound yet. I still think January probably got a good dose of help from gift cards from the holidays and folks who like to wait to shop to see if they can get better deals.

I didn't write about this, but I thought it was hilarious: Heinz Revamps Ketchup Packets. I didn't consciously realize till I read this how annoying and obnoxious those things are! I guess I was just resigned to struggling and messes since that's always been how those dumb things ARE. And apparently there are hundreds of Facebook groups dedicated to hating on ketchup packets. Who knew??

Stay safe, those of you who are hunkering down for the big snowstorm! And have a great weekend all.

A ketchup packet-frustrated user support group :) who knew? I'm already long on Heinz, but this choice of theirs to make a more user friendly packet just confirms me in my decision.

I wish we had snow here in SC, it would be prettier than our current heavy rain. Take Care!

Well the good news, of course, is ketchup is a must -- I know ketchup fanatics. One person I know called it the Cadillac of condiments and another friend of mine once said french fries are just a vehicle for ketchup delivery. All bodes well despite the annoying packets. HA! But yeah this new one seems nifty... it just was pretty funny that I suddenly realized... hey YEAH, those things are annoying! ;) It's not like we could do without them though!

Aww, heavy rain, yeah that is not pretty at all! But... a little snow is nice but the weather prognosticators are using words like "crippling" and "paralyzing," ha. Hopefully it won't take long to dig out! Stay dry in the rainy part of the U.S. :)

Brand loyalty among ketchup users is incredible.  I can imagine this fanning the cinders of the Hunts vs Heinz debate.  "Our ketchup comes in more awesome packets!"

That's true, there is major brand loyalty! That would be funny, right, more ammunition in the pro-Heinz arsenal, haha.
