A Few Retail Tidbits (And Some Ketchup)
While I sit here awaiting the DC area Snowpocalypse, I thought I'd post a few retail articles from yesterday.
First of all, Buyer Beware on Borders, which surged on Wednesday due to positive comments from Bill Ackman. Like your mom used to say, if so-and-so jumped off a bridge, would you? I think it's pretty Foolish to carefully weigh what other people say and just not automatically agree because they are who they are. But I know we're good at that around these parts!
I also had to take the January comps results with a grain of salt and suggest that investors shouldn't bank on a retail rebound yet. I still think January probably got a good dose of help from gift cards from the holidays and folks who like to wait to shop to see if they can get better deals.
I didn't write about this, but I thought it was hilarious: Heinz Revamps Ketchup Packets. I didn't consciously realize till I read this how annoying and obnoxious those things are! I guess I was just resigned to struggling and messes since that's always been how those dumb things ARE. And apparently there are hundreds of Facebook groups dedicated to hating on ketchup packets. Who knew??
Stay safe, those of you who are hunkering down for the big snowstorm! And have a great weekend all.
