So long, Wolfie. You blew it. Not as bad as your whole Iraq plan (remember how it would cost nothing and be paid for by Iraq's oil?) but you blew it nonetheless.

Yes, the world bank needs some cleaning up. But you were not the guy for the job, any more than a stick of dynamite is the right way to catch a stringer of trout.

But you've been a loyal stooge, so it appears your masters will bully the World Bank into getting you a dispensation. See you on the neocon lecture circuit.

The man who was supposed to clean up the World Bank...

NYTimes: Mr. Coll recounted that Mr. Wolfowitz became “increasingly agitated” and said he was “tired of people” who were “attacking him.”

“You should tell your friends to stop it,” Mr. Wolfowitz added, using expletives and threatening retaliation, according to the memo.

The "expletives" he used, as the Guardian reports:

Sounding more like a cast member of the Sopranos than an international leader, in testimony by one key witness Mr Wolfowitz declares: "If they fuck with me or Shaha, I have enough on them to fuck them too."

But of course the Bush Banana republic administration still supports him:

Yesterday vice president Dick Cheney defended Mr Wolfowitz, saying: "Paul is one of the most able public servants I've ever known .... I think he's a very good president of the World Bank, and I hope he will be able to continue."

The US treasury secretary, Hank Paulson, was yesterday said to also be drumming up support for Mr Wolfowitz, while European governments increasingly despair of US intransigence in allowing Mr Wolfowitz to hang on.

In the future they won't say "corrupt as in Russia or Africa", but "corrupt as in the USA"!

Yeah, these are great human beings all right. I can't believe our nation was conned into keeping this crowd in office.
