A look back and the 99 game played on MF

I had three stocks last December that I thought were great buys. Two have more than doubled and one cut in half. They were QCOR, AMRN and ASYS. All part of a blog I posted. I would still buy AMRN. Lots of reasons to buy however I will leave it to you to research them. ASYS looks pretty cheap now!

I also bloged about the 99 game played on MF. It drew some replies. Just a follow up. In the past few days I went short a bunch of bear ETF 3X funds. Then followed up with a bunch of buys on 3X long funds. Well you can imagine the impact on my points today. Have a look if you wonder.

So question is, should these funds be taken out of the game? I noticed a lot of CAPS using them to spike their portfolio. That is why I was waiting to do it myself. Of course shorting the Bear ETF works better as the market goes up than the long bull ETF. You get extra points for the inverse movement in price when shorting the bear ETF in a rising market..

On with the debate.

I think there's a lot of highly rated players that couldn't dredge up anything useful out of a company's financial statements.  And some rather highly-ranked, well-known players that like to red-thumb companies and simply leave them red-thumbed for years, in defiance of the fundamentals reflecting the economic realities of the future prospects for that company.

In the event that lightning strikes, they'll take the credit for appearing smarter than they are.

They aren't.

Comment #1, if you are referring to me, I read lots of financial statements -- a hobby of mine in fact. However, I do leave red thumbs out there for long periods of time, guilty as charged. You don't get an 89% accuracy rating by chance.

Good thread you linked to. I agree with you that DRI bears from the teens are not going to get out of that position in the green anytime soon.
