Hello, I am new to this site, and relatively a novice at picking stocks. Whatever advise you all can offer will be most appreciated, and an advance thank you!

Hi Lydia and welcome! I'm new, too, and hope you'll get a lot of good tips and recommendations here, as I have. Enjoy and bear with us! ;)

Read the articles in the Fool School on the main Motley Fool site.  Also, read the articles in the Morningstar University area of the Morningstar site.  They will give you a good background in evaluating a stock, portfolio diversification, reading a balance sheet and all sorts of other information you might find useful.  Also, you can read the pitches and blogs of the top players.  They might also give you a lot of useful information.  Pay particular attention to the initial blog posts of the top players.  Most people, if they have been investing for a while before joining CAPS, will use their first blog post to explain their investing style, what they consider when investigating a stock, etc..  These can give you overviews of different investing styles, things to look for, (and look out for), when investigating stocks, etc..  This can broaden your information on what to look for and what to avoid.

After reading all that, you can always post questions in your blog and someone will probably come by and answer them for you.

Good luck in your investing.  May all your picks be winners.
