A Slightly Disturbed Politician

"A reporter for the Arizona Republic writes in a profile of state senator Lori Klein that the politician pulled a loaded, raspberry-pink handgun from a special zippered case and aimed it straight at his chest during an interview.

The revelation--mentioned off-hand in the original story--has now created a media firestorm about gun safety, and a potential PR headache for gun advocates.

Richard Ruelas writes that Klein said "Oh it's so cute," before aiming the pistol square at his chest so he could see the red laser sight beam appear on his body. It probably didn't help the often adversarial character of relations between the press and political leaders for Ruelas to learn that the .380 Ruger in question had no safety."

Naturally her defense is that "I didn't have my hand on the trigger"

Really lady?? Wow... and I thought Sarah Palin had bad interview manners...

This is a fun one for the "Reverse the Roles" game...what would have happened if a reporter pulled out a gun during an interview and pointed it at the chest of a politician?

Some law enforcement officer would have shot the reporter. Which is what should have happened to the politican or anybody that points a gun at an unarmed person that is obviously not endangering the armed person's life.

I guess that she hadn't been taught you don't point guns at people in fun which is elementary gun safety. The right to bear arms isn't carte blanc for stupid behavior.

Somehow the lack of maturity among elected officials has been anything but reassuring recently.

(Hope your summer is going well, Sock Market. I'm surviving on lots of frozen lemonade since it is so humid here in SC.)

Sorry it took me so long to reply! Ive been on the road for a few weeks and have very sporadic internet.

apparently she doesn't have much knowledge of what is actually right...I don't know how anyone could be this dull, but I guess she found a way...

Anyway my summer is going great! I finally took the long awaited trip, and am currently somewhere along the Oregon coast (it is absolutely goregeous here!) Im hoping to see some offshore mammals tomorrow; we will see if I have any luck...

Glad to hear you are eating lemons, in some form, you are certainly living up to your name!

Total shot in the dark here, but do you happen to know a girl about my age named Rachael? The only reason I am asking is that she is a good friend of mine from college, and comes from your area...

If you do reply, I probably won't see it for a week or so, so if I don't reply right away that is why.

Oregon coast sounds refreshing! I hope that you've been able to spot some offshore mammals. In the past I gotten to see dolphins off the St. Petersburg, FL pier and some flamingos out getting their breakfast in Clearwater Bay.

I don't think I know Rachael, but I have to agree that many of the people from around here are very nice :). With the places I've lived and the people I'm met, I wouldn't be surprised if some of my fellow Capsters are friends of a friend, of a friend, of a friend, of a friend, or even closer than that.

Once my brother said something like I was less than 6 removes from Boris Yeltsin. ( I sure as anything would rather meet zloj or russiangambit who are much sweeter people from what I can tell.) His reasoning was that since I knew someone who knew Jeb Bush, and Jeb Bush has a brother George Bush, and George Bush met Boris Yeltsin--there I was. That is why I take Linkedin with a grain of salt even if somebody is in my "network" :)

However, I was reassured when I was 18 that it was a smaller world than I thought. I was NJ hospital waiting room thinking about my grandmother dying, but I saw this other girl sitting across the lobby who looked so familiar that I was sure I had seen her before even though I was from out-of-state and in a city I had never been. She looked at me rather intently also. I don't know who spoke first, but it turned out that I had met her about three years previously at a Renaissance Fair near Cape May about 60 miles away where she was demonstrating quilting with her grandmother. She had gone to school with my cousin and she remembered us. Her mom was a nurse at the hospital and she was waiting for her to get off shift. I had someone very pleasant to talk to which I found comforting. I thanked God for sending someone to cheer me up.

Well, I went way off topic, but then I don't like to think that long about less-than-inspiring politicians.

Have a great rest of the summer!
