A Tip O' The Ol' Jester Cap

June 19, 2007 – Comments (8)

Let me take this opportunity to tip my jester cap to our new Top Fool, downwithpumpers.  When it comes to playing this game we call CAPS, he’s long been one of the best – so congrats!

I’ll admit when I noticed he’d passed me up (again!  We’ve been swapping the #1 and #2 slots for a good while now) I was a little sad that the King of the Hill message area was no longer mine to play around with.  But at the end of the day, no matter who the Top Fool is, I sure had one heck of a nice run for a good, long time – something I never expected to accomplish for even 5 minutes given the caliber of the competition across the board.

While being Top Fool was indeed fun and rewarding, what is far more important to me is what I’ve learned along the way – and I’ve learned a great deal.  I know I’ve said this before, but I am also very grateful for the opportunity and platform that CAPS has given me which has allowed me, at least in some small way, to pass along at least a small part of what I’ve learned here at The Motley Fool over the years.

I want to take this opportunity to thank not only The Motley Fool, but the whole CAPS community, for all of the wonderful words and support.  Having my pitches recommended, thoughtfully replied to (even, or perhaps especially, when there’s disagreement), being made a ‘favorite player’ by so many – that’s the real reward for me.  I know I have at least a few fans out there – which tells me that at least some of you have found something useful in what I’ve contributed around here.  That means a lot, and makes me feel a bit like the ‘King of the Hill’ no matter who wears the sparkling jester cap at the moment.

And also thanks for your support during what I’ve been going through outside of CAPS.  Receiving your kind wishes and thoughts while coping with the loss of my father, and knowing that a lot of Fools out there were (and are) rooting for me while facing a cancer diagnosis and going through surgery meant something.

So again, to all of my fellow CAPS players, and to the Motley Fool, I just want to say thanks again.  And again, congrats to downwithpumpers!  I’ve always believed, and tried to act as though, there’s a certain responsibility that goes with that sparkling cap.  I’m sure our new Top Fool will wear it well.

Looks like your short positions on solar/Chinese stocks have hurt you. I tried to warn you some time ago.

A lot of calls have hurt me, especially DryShips (negative 400 points as of this writing).

Again, that's what I like about CAPS.  We get to try out our crazy ideas without putting real money on the line. :-)

Well Eldrehad I finally seem to have passed your score.  When I started to really make picks for the game you were the target I had in my sights.

Here's to continued great competition.  Luv.
