I don't get it though.... spending taxpayer money on welfare programs by the trillions why America goes in and out of one recession after another since WWII was a bad idea afterall?

Throwing cash around like its Monopoly Money to pay for Windmills and Solar Panels while working through the EPA and other regulatory agencies to shut down Coal Power, Nuclear Power, Oil & Natural Gas drilling......a bad idea after all???

Swallowing up huge swaths of land since Theodore Roosevelt so as to prevent Private Industry from using the land, farmers from farming it, and average citizens from investing in it was a bad idea afterall?

Piling on millions upon millions of anti-business regulations to save the spotted owl, the blue whale, the dolphins, the goldfish, the trees and plants, the apes, and ad nauseum was a bad idea afterall?/?

I just don't get it!!

It is pretty ridiculous that we work so hard to save endangered species. BUT, you can't deny the facts. Environmental factors are not accounted for in GDP, so countries have no incentives to protect rain forests, etc since it has no value.

However, natural processes amount to many trillions of saved dollars every year. Reducing air pollution (billions added to healthcare costs every year), regulating weather (think how poor farming practices fueled the Dust Bowl. That wasn't such a cheap hole to climb out of was it?), providing free wastewater treatment, disease prevention (malaria could be much worse if not for sub-Saharan lake spiders), invasive species control, and the list goes on and on.

Jeffrey Sachs (author of Common Wealth, is big at pointing out these factors.

We have had California Farmers completely out of work to save a tiny minnow like fish....

We have had companies filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy because of violating various pollution laws...

We have tons of land that if we drilled it we'd have hundreds of thousands of jobs....thus more taxpayers....

We could have more Nuclear Power plants if we were allowed to use the Yucatan Mountain to dispose of the cylinders....

Our Fisheries are constantly assaulted with ever stricter restrictions on various types of fish you are allowed/not allowed to fish for....

60 mpg is certainly possible and where we could have been today if we didn't stop raising CAFE standards long ago. Our average fleet efficiency is 25 mpg. Europe has 45 mpg. Does that sound impossible?

As for the other garbage you posted, I suppose you would like to live in a world that has the same industrial efficiency as 1850. I don't want to inhale sulfur dioxide or have benzene in my water, but you must not care. We have the most effecient steel industry in the world because of environmental regulations. It's not our fault China dumps exports and devalues their currency.

Obama may have increased funding for the EPA by 127%, but that's only because your boy Bush cut it. It's funny how people have such short memories.

I don't have short memories.  The level of funding for the EPA was sufficient.  We did not need to skyrocket the EPA's funding which has only lead to regulatory adventurism at the most rapid pace in at least a decade.

Show me where anyone is dying from SULFAR dioxide or benzene?

Show me any examples in Texas or anywhere else where that is the case?  Show me?

I do not see any examples....anywhere... All I see is Environmentalists going off the deep end and acting like absolute dictatorship morons claiming that we constantly need to keep decreassing this and decreasing that....

When will it stop?  Cause that is the very problem.  You'll never statisfy environmentalists.... They are never happy.

We set Sulfar Standards at 1 level due to Environmentalst uproar.  Now a couple years later we have to set an even stricter standard.

Trucks and SUVs won't have to get 60 mpg. CAFE standards are based on an automaker's fleet. Eventually, electric cars will be cheaper, but only if we invest in the technology now.

You don't see people die from air pollution because it's not as visual as other causes of death. Lung cancer, heart disease, asthma - can all be related to environmental factors. Numerous studies have been done to show this. It's the same argument peope use against nuclear. You and I know much more people have died from industrial air pollution than nuclear accidents. But silly people (Germans) get all caught up in worst case scenarios and nuclear get's a bad rap. It's ridiculous.

I'll admit my last post was a little harsh. I'd rather join arms with my fellow Fools than put up walls. I just hope people can be a little more open-minded about things. Simply saying "all environmentalist are wackos" isn't very open-minded. In fact, there is no such thing as an "environmentalist". It is a broad term used to describe a group of people (analytical environmental scientist, urban environmental scientists, atmospheric environmental scientists, etc) that all study totally different things and have different opinions. It's the activist environmentalists you have to watch out for.

My brother's wife has 6 f***** cats and won't use nail polish remover because of all of the "toxins" in it. You know how hard it is for me to not punt a cat out the window or slap her when she says things like that???? Really hard varchild. REALLY hard. Maybe I could use your help....
