He is at it again. He is going to show those who don't like him that he is in control and they better like it or move to Costa Rica. I have been sitting on the sidelines reading all these post that pontificate about investment strategies as though nothing is wrong and the government doesn't impact investment strategies. Well there is. For any individual to pull the plug on the Keystone pipeline and destroy the opportunity for 10's of thousands of jobs to be created is an act of economic terrorism. If the Iranians can halt the passage of oil through the use of blockades, there will bill spikes in the cost of gas at the pumps like we've never seen. I acknowledge the fact that it will take time to build the line, but the Canadians have been holding back on release of rights to the Chinese for a year. The US should have been making a strategic move to secure Keystone the second the rights became  available. obamas' actions are devious to say the very least. His masters at the unions must not have been reciprocal with Canada. Every day is another communist move by a muslim president. Wake up and smell the coffee while we still can but coffee.

Had to get this off my chest Hope others feel the same and vote this guy out of office...

Next time, start off with this quote, so we know we can ignore your drivel.

I was also a little disappointed that the XL Pipeline wasn't approved as well, but Islam and communism...pretty divergent paths, don't cha think.

I do like the idea of moving to Costa Rica though.

Chiming in with leohaas.  That comment was ignorant and uncalled for.  Challenge the action without resorting to namecalling.

My understanding was that the President isn't necessarily against the pipeline, he was just against being given a short deadline which I suspect was done to make it an eventual political issue and there were legitimate issues over the route the pipeline was being proposed to take.  Nothing is stopping TransCanada from reapplying.

leohaas : It is obvious that you have a problem identifying the truth. This man is a muslim with communist philosophies, his grandfather  was a member of the party in Hawaii and used to take him to meetings as a child. He does not leave his childhood learnings outside the office when he goes to work.

awallejr: I was not name calling. I was merely pointing out facts that might contribute to making such a stupid decision. He brags in a news conference of how he is going to make jobs, but does the complete opposite when he has the opportunity. That is the action  you refer to.

The blog author's political commentary doesn't merit comment. But some particulars about President Obama's decision do:

Obama was already on record as saying no, for now, until his administration could review an alternative route that avoided environmentally sensitive areas of Nebraska - a route that still has not been proposed, as the White House emphasized.

(...)

"This announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people," Obama said in a written statement.

(...)

To underscore the point, Obama signaled that he would not oppose development of an oil pipeline from Oklahoma to refineries along the Gulf of Mexico. TransCanada already operates a pipeline from Canada to the Cushing hub.

So, the deadline to make a decision on the pipeline was arbitrary and premature -- a deadline forced on President Obama (prior to the completion of a thorough environmental review) by Congressional Republicans, a deadline that was conjured up, one can safely assume, for Republicans' own political purposes; TransCanada has not proposed an alternative route that would avoid environmentally sensitive lands in Nebraska; and in any case, TransCanada already operates a pipeline from Canada to Cushing. Further, President Obama is not opposed to the construciton of a pipeline that would deliver refined oil from Cushing to Gulf ports (for export).

That's ... for export.

One can reasonably conclude that this oil is partly/largely/entirely intended for export. Nothing wrong with that, but it may present a problem to those who subscribe to the notion that this is somehow a ploy to prevent energy self sufficiency. (To say nothing of those who decry the decision as an attempt at world domination by a Muslim/communist brotherhood.)

papsrus: You reasoning and logic are sound. But do you think the pipeline was conceived with ill thought towards the environment. This issue is one of the first on a long checklist of necessary approvals that would have been considered. I still contend that obama is using this issue as a political chip to move around on the political poker table to his advantage and not to the advantage of the the working stiff. This is why I make the political and economical points in the same blog. They run together.

ps: never was their a mention of world domination by a muslim/communist brotherhood. Those are your feelings not mine.

I think it is a mistake not to find some way to fast-track this pipeline, for the sake of jobs and expanding our energy supply.

But I think it's also a mistake to conclude that the conflict between Congress and President Obama on the timing of the approval of  this thing is entirely Obama's doing. Congressional Republicans forced his hand for political stagecraft.

There are, afterall, legitimate environmental concerns that apparently haven't been resolved to the satisfaction of everyone involved. And this oil is, by everyone's admission, one of the dirtier grades, isn't it?

In any case, there apparently already is a pipeline in place to deliver Canadian oil to Cushing, with no opposition by the Obama administration to the construction of an additional pipeline that would deliver it to the Gulf refiners ... for export. Emphasis on "export," as I understand it.

So, what is the urgent need for immediate approval of the TransCanada pipeline really about? I think if you look beyond the rhetoric, you'll likely find more reliable answers.

OK, lets make it easy, Say for instance 10,000 pipeline works and 500 suppliers are not used to start the project. Now no one receives any money for their services and as a result cannot invest in anything, including the wellbeing of their families. The most important investment there is.
