WE BONUS A FEW BANKERS BILLIONS WITH TAXPAYER MONEY....AND SLASH THE INCOME OF MILLIONS OF TEACHERS......JUST WAIT UNTIL THEY FIND OUT THEIR PENSIONS ARE  BANKRUPT...........HOW LONG DO YOU THINK BEFORE THE RIOTING  BEGINS??????

UNLESS OF COURSE WE ARE DISTRACTED FIRST;)

Boos and jeers filled Cobo Hall this afternoon as Detroit Public Schools teachers reacted to details in a proposed contract agreement with the district.

The tentative agreement includes:

• Teachers loaning the district $10,000 each over two years with deductions taken from their paychecks.

• A base salary increase of 1% in the third year of the three-year contract.

• Increase in health insurance costs.

• Plus a plethora of school reforms that include a peer evaluation process.

Teachers union president Keith Johnson told the crowd that the contract may not be exactly what they want but the alternative is to have the district declare bankruptcy, possibly leaving many of them unemployed.

“I cannot, I will not gamble, play Russian roulette, call the bluff of the district,” Johnson said.

Teachers are expected to vote on the proposed contract later this month.

Christal Bonner, a sIpecial ed teacher at Finney High school, with four children in the district, walked around Cobo with a sign saying "Vote No."

“Anybody who has half a brain would not vote for this. It’s robbery,” Bonner said.

As a teacher, I would like to add a few comments.

The Texas Teachers Pension Fund is less than it was, but it is still one of the largest in the country, and financially very strong.

I don't think using Detroit as your example is really representative of the country. Detroit is a basket case, and has been for years.

Maybe a little more conservatism would go a long way in avoiding these problems in the future.

Not a big fan of Unions (though I admit they are sometimes needed), because in my experience they are for the most part a drain on the members and contribute little on their behalf.

JMO and worth exactly what I am charging for it.

LOL.  Wrong.  Wrong.  And soon to be wrong.  But then that's what you've always hoped for Alstry.  I'm glad to have helped you realize your hopes of being wrong.  You don't have to thank me.  Being able to laugh at you is all the thanks I need.
