Altria Lawsuit Resolved
Interesting ruling and article here regading the $79.5 million judgment against MO in the recent Williams case:
Long story short, the Supreme Court threw it out because the jury is not allowed to punish a company for damage done to anyone other than the plaintiff in the case. That favored MO. There was no ruling on whether excessive judgments are against any part of the constitution.
MO is not moving on the news. This legal stuff lies far outside my circle of competence, but I find it interesting nonetheless. Also, since I grew up during a time when cigarettes were almost universally regarded as unhealthy and addictive, I always find it hard to believe that it wasn't always that way. I mean, who doesn't realize that inhaling smoke is unhealthy? Houses have chimneys for a reason.
Of course, tobacco companies also deserve to be maligned.
