Taxpayers are getting tired of being pushed around!!!!
Cape Coral could shutter City Hall on Fridays as a last ditch effort to dull next year’s tax increase.
The City Council Wednesday offered support to a plan that would cut 36 employees and force remaining staff to work four nine-hour days. The proposal, which could cut about $3 million from the operating budget, comes amid a maelstrom of public discontent.
“That’s the first move I’ve seen that makes any sense,” Cape resident Fredrick Van Slett told the Council during a public hearing on the budget Monday. “But I have no confidence you’re going to do what you said.”
“This proposal is trying to keep people working,” said Mayor Jim Burch. “We’ve eliminated 300 positions already (since 2007). I don’t want to cut anymore.”
With city residents clamoring for cuts, the council has few other options. Dozens of angry residents spoke Wednesday, disparaging city spending in front of the council and about 300 spectators packed into the chambers.
“I can’t afford you people anymore,” said resident Arlene Henderson. “I really can’t. I’m going to sign my return address ‘Ghost Town, Florida.
“This is the last straw for me,” said Brandon Reich, who bought a home in Cape Coral in 2006 at the height of the market boom. “If it was just the taxes, we might be OK, but when the (home) insurance goes up, health insurance goes up, it’s just too much.”

Right now over 21,000,000 people work for government. That number must be reduced dramatically to bring it into line with current declining government receipts.
If we fired 11,000,000 government workers, it still would NOT come close to covering the deficit, but it would make a nice dent saving approximately $700 Billion dollars. Yes, U6 umemployment would rise to approximately 25%....but it is a necessary price to pay for right sizing government.
In order to save the additional Trillion dollars in deficit, we would likely have to cut an additional 15 million health care and contractor workers who are direct beneficiaries of government spend.
Unfortunately this would take U6 umemployment over 35%, but at least we would be much closer to a balanced budget.
An unfortunate consequence of cutting all those workers, even though many of them government workers, would be a dramatic cut in income, social security and medicare taxes. Consequently we would likely have to release another 7 million workers to finally come closer to balancing the budget with the lower revenues.
At this point, we would be very close to 40% unemployment....but at least we would be near a balanced budget.
IT IS AMAZING HOW SOME ARROGANT FOOLS TALK ABOUT RESETTING BUT FAIL TO CONTEMPLATE OR RATIONALLY ADDRESS THE CONSEQUENCES.
Alstry makes no judgments, simply presents the facts with rational conclusions.
Soon we will have to make some serious choices as money runs out......Massive Depression or Massive Government....there is nothing in between as the bailed out bankers cut off credit to the private economy.
As you can see, 9.09 is not the end of the world.....just the beginning of restructuring. Not doom and gloom, but a new flower about to bloom. No telling you we need to live like the sixties...when the conditions in the sixties had very little relevance to today.
It is the end of an old age the the beginning of a new......9.09.
