America IS SHUTTING DOWN....whether you like it or not!!!!

February 08, 2010 – Comments (5)

The long-threatened CTA service cuts took effect early this morning, despite last-minute efforts to strike a deal with the agency's unions.

Though negotiations continue to restore service perhaps as soon as late next week, riding almost any CTA bus or train today will take considerably longer than it did yesterday.

Nine express bus routes have been eliminated, 41 bus routes have had their beginning and/or end times cut, and 78 more buses will see less frequent service. All "L" lines except for the Yellow Line will see less frequent service.

Additionally, the agency laid off 1,067 unionized employees.

It is not to hard to see if you take your head out the the sand......and it is not the end of the world.  Simply the shutting down of the Industrial Age preparing for the progression into the Alstrynomic Digital Age.  And it is not just bus routes, or airlines, or housing construction, or postal workers, or architects......if you are not in the war or welfare segment of the are likely feeling the change.

Call it a sight for sore eyes… strip malls turning into eyesores because so many of its stores are closing up shop.

That's especially true for malls that have lost their anchor tenants like large grocery stores.

CBS47 On Your Side takes a closer look at these empty shopping centers and how they are impacting the value of neighborhood homes.

Near a vacant Albertsons, Realtor Ryan Ramirez has been trying to sell a home for about three months. The owners even knocked down the price $25,000 dollars and still no bites.

Ramirez said, "I think everything has a domino effect right now, and even nationally, they're telling us that this recession is over. From a local standpoint, it certainly doesn't look that way."
