Three months back, I was ruminating about my increasing interest in Apple and wondering whether it was a good idea to also own companies that compete with the tech giant.
Ultimately, I decided to put my money on Apple (AAPL) outperforming those companies. I sold off two-thirds of my Adobe (ADBE) shares. I liquidated my position in touchscreen maker Synaptics (SYNA.)
I felt pretty good about it then.
So, how did that play turn out a quarter later?
It was looking pretty smart until last week....

I have all my eggs in one basket.  I do this often.  Some of my family call me crazy and warn me of the risks of non-diversification.  They're the first to critisize when something doesn't work out, but they're also the type that has never made boatloads of money in their lifetime.  I want boatloads of money so I bought in the money AAPL options and nothing else.

This isn't a trade yet - you don't have an exit point.  It's not a trade until the profit's booked.

long the $375 (expiry jan 21, 2012)
short the $425 (expiry jan 21, 2012)

 cost me $2300 per contract.

These were not options trades. Straight stock sales and purchases.

I've traded my money for shares of Apple's stock. I've traded what I had in Adobe and SYNA for Apple. 

I have not closed my AAPL position and may not for years to come.
