An Inconvenient Forecast / The Nutty Inside Trader

October 19, 2009 – Comments (0) | RELATED TICKERS: USO , UNG

I saw the headline "An Inconvenient Forecast" at the bottom of the screen while I was getting ready for work this morning and I instantly laughed out loud.  While it's not exactly PC, it is a classic.

The title refers to a new forecast by AccuWeather for a colder than normal winter in the Northeastern United States.

AccuWeather: Cold Winter In Store For US Northeast

I saw one prediction that this would be the worst winter in the Northeast since 1977.  Grumble, grumble, grumble...the older I get, the more I hate the winter.  The best investment that I've ever made wasn't some sort of ten-bagger stock pick, no way it was the snow blower that I bought several years ago.  That thing has added years to what's left of my old, broken back.

I digress (once again).  What implications does this news, if true, have for investing.  A colder than normal winter, would likely give the price of natural gas and oil, which are both used for heating homes in the Northeast, a lift.

By now, most of you have heard about the huge insider trading ring that the SEC recently busted.  What you didn't know is that the boss of this nefarious scheme was none other than Professor Sherman Klump.

Separated at birth?

Raj Rajaratnam

Sherman Klump

After the cancellation of The Nutty Professor television series, Sherman Klump was forced to turn to a life of white collar crime.  Hercules, Hercules, Hercules!
