Leon Kass was former chairman of the President's Council on Bioethics.  A position most vilified in science in the past few years.  So read the interview -- do you honestly not agree with much of what he has to say?

No matter how you approach it, this is not a simple subject.

Interesting interview - there are points that I disagree with strongly and others I disagree with to an extent, but yes, I do agree with much of what he says.  Up to now, the human race has been able to control (somewhat anyway) it's technological advances so that it hasn't destroyed itself; however with genetic engineering, we're entering an area where the human race could be accidently exterminated before anything can be done to prevent it.  So it's clear there has to be some oversight/control to the research, but how to go about it is not clear at all.
