Analyst Price Targets

January 28, 2013 – Comments (3)

I'm inclined to think these numbers don't really mean very much, but I'm wondering how many Fools share this opinion.

Having readthis morning on that 3 different analysts  raised their targets on Halliburton (HAL) today is what got my curiosity going.

Will this news have any effect on other Fools interest in opening picks on this stock?

Sellside analyst price targets should have zero impact on whether or not you purchase a stock.

How about deciding when you should sell a stock in your portfolio  or end a pick on a stock you don't actually own?

In my opinion, the primary reason for price target changes is that the stock moved, so they need to make the price target match the rating.

I put zero value on analyst price targets, but slightly negative value might be even better.
