Aren't you a little short for a storm trooper?
Welcome, young Skywalker, I have been expecting you. Currently I'm traveling home from my holiday trip while contemplating this past year. I thought I'd type up a blog post and let you know what's new before we get swept up by 2013.
First and foremost, I'd like to tell you that my wife and I are expecting our first little Phoenix (I believe by definition a phoenix cannot be born, only reborn) and we couldn't be more excited. My wife and I have become card-carrying members of Costco. Consequently, I added to my long positions of Costco (NASDAQ:COST), Diageo (NYSE:DEO) and of course my monthly ExxonMobile (NYSE:XOM) DRiP, since I last posted.
In anticipation of our bundle of joy, I am terrified about the unknown expenses of raising a child. To be on the safe side, I'll be suspending all of my investments (including my auto monthly XOM investment) for the next year or until I have a financial understanding of my immediate destiny. Basically I plan to horde all the cash I would otherwise invest and after a year, if this little rancor hasn't eaten us out of house and home, I'll probably see what's left and maybe do another "stock of the month" idea. We'll see, I have plenty of time to think about it.
Besides planning to dress her up in cheesy Star Wars outfits, we've been considering 529 college savings plans. Once I've learned about all the options and considerations, I'll post a blog to share what I've learned and gather advice from you all. So keep an eye out for that.
As we head over the "fiscal cliff," here a snapshot of my current investments including dividends and brokerage commissions:
Flower Foods, +25.6%
CVR Partners, +14.5%
Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, +32.7%
Terra Nitrogen Company, L.P., +54.9%
I hope your New Year is a blast!
