Ask the stupid question...

Here's an interesting bit of praise for Alex Blumberg, the "This American Life" producer who put together the rapidly-getting-more-famous story "Giant Pool of Money."

If you haven't heard this one, listen to it soon. Like no other account I've heard, seen, or read, it points out the obvious insanity of what was going on, and asks "the stupid question," why are they loaning money to people who can't pay it back?

Then remember, the Emperor's New Clothes is an old fable for a reason: It's amazing how widespread public delusions can become, and how long they can endure.

I think asking the stupid question, the obvious question, is something that people don't do often enough. Disbelieving the obvious responses from authority is something we could use more of as well.
