Ban insider trading in Congress

"Unless we take steps to stop the influence of money in our politics, we'll never start rebuilding the trust the American people have in Washington.

In his State of the Union, the President said he would sign any bill that ended insider trading in Congress—stopping once and for all the practice of our elected officials holding stock in the industries they impact.

Stand with the President and join the call to ban insider trading in Congress."

Come on Lennysims, don't you know by now this man is a pathological liar? If he were serious, why doesn't he execute an executive order? He doesn't care about congress and the constitution.... Smoke and mirrors.

I agree with Drgroup on the sincerity of the current president.

If I could "decree" one Constitutional amendment, it would be that the President, Congress, and Judiciary members must follow all laws that they decree for the rest of us.  I do not just mean insider trading, but Social Security, Medicare, and anything else that is "good enough for the rest of us."  The Congressional Bank http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_banking_scandal and Post Office http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Post_Office_scandal .  created scandals that had criminal consequences for some members of Congress. The Congressional Banking Scandal alone included over 450 members of Congress.

And what both of you say on the president and congress could very well be true, but it's almost like your missing the point, and the point is the squeeky wheel gets the grease. People need to let public officials know that we expect them to be held accountable for their actions.

There have been other bills brought to congress for the last five years or so, but since the public has never voiced their opinions on this topic nothing has been done.

Change does not happen if we are just sitting on the sidelines.

I think it was the bolded "Stand with the President" that lost me.  The economic and internal policies of this president have so angered me that I have difficulty with even a good idea when this president proposes it.  I am always afraid that it is "political-speak" for a different policy or action entirely.

I do STRONGLY support your topic of banning insider trading for Congress.  That is why the rec is there and the comment.  There is an absolute joy in knowing that Internet provides outlets for all those "squeaky wheels."

All the best to you.  M

We are not sitting on the sidelines. The government is, and spending all of our money at the same time. Time for a complete overhaul in washington... Vote all of them out.

clearly the gov. is spending the money, but at the same time they are making plenty of it illegally. Awhile back on here somebody posted an article that said congress beat the generals publics returns by about 5%. They make plenty of money as it is; do they really need this unfair advantage as well. and no I do not personally think you are sitting on the sidelines; you are here and at least talking about it--that's a start.
