And profits are profits.

Susan Linn, the director of the Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood said: "It's bad enough when companies use a beloved media character like SpongeBob to promote junk food to children, but it's utterly reprehensible when that character simultaneously promotes objectified, sexualized images of women."

But it's still insanely funny.

Insanely funny?  I don't think so.  Oddly enough it was my male friends that found this commercial objectionable.  I dislike the "Burger King" character so much that I tune out anything he appears in.  They were the ones that were asking who in their right minds thought that those commercials were actually appropriate for kids?  Of course, I have some pretty smart guys for friends!

Hi Mary,

It is funny, like it or not. That any advertising agency would produce something like this for a child oriented market is also insane from a business and public relations view.

I expect the campaign will be pulled soon enough, apologies will be made, and the pundits of moralty will express their self-serving outrage on any news/opinion cable network that will have them.

motleyanimal,

You left out the last and most important part, BK's profits will soar, and they will sell more burgers because of all the free press...

FWIW, I find the commercial hilarious and it's probably because the original song came out when I was growing up, and I used to be into that type of music. That said, I think are much more effective marketing campaigns and I f'n HATE spongebob.

The Burger King can get away with this because there is a double standard for pro athletes. If he wasn't so damn good at football, there is no way the concept would have been approved in the first place.

Nice avatar by the way.

Thanks Blake,

Burger King has been doing some very edgy stuff over the years. Perhaps the kinkiest is the Subservient Chicken, who resides on its own site and is modeled like a live porn show, the kind where the viewer types in commands for the positions they want to see. I'm not kidding. This is for the 18-35 year-old male consumer.

Hip hop is to music what scrapple is to food.

Sponge bob is to cartoons what pee wee herman is to actors.

And to think, some people would PAY to have this crap come through their cable lines. What are you people thinking? TV is for morons! And the programming is fit for pre-fall-Rome. the funny thing about the end of this 'civilization' is how enthusiastically we are marching towards it, with parade like cheer. Are they putting something in the water that makes this type of advertisement not seem offensive to the senses in general? As far as it being offensive to women, I feel it offended the men too, they just don't know it.

I wouldn't even feed my dogs burger king, nor my pig if i had one and intended to eat it.

It always cracks me up when people get shocked seeing sex used to sell something. But, wasn't this commercial about selling?

A square butt is offensive? A square butt being shaken is offensive?

The creepy BK dude is bad enough, but I actually was bothered by this commercial.  Normally I don't let things like this bother me, in fact I find many tasteless things hilarious...but this commercial really rubs me the wrong way.  Perhaps it's because I have two young kids now.

Motley,

Please understand that my major problem is a complete dislike of the Burger King mascot. However .....

I know you don't usually visit GoodVibe's Lounge, but I posted a video that you might enjoy.  It would be a good distraction from your "work, work, work, work, work, work, work."

I'd rather they watch the commercial than actually eat that crap. I wish more parents thought the same. Maybe then so many kids wouldnt be morbidly obese.
