This company just got a preliminary loan guarantee from the federal government of 14 billion dollars to build the first new nuclear power plant In the United States In the past 30 years In Augusta Georgia. Although still years away from construction,If you accumulate shares over the long term,I feel that you will be rewarded handsomely. At a recent $31.50 per share you get a dividend yield of 5.5% . This will be my first reccommendation of a utility stock, and In this case I feel that this Is an extremely compelling long term equity. I consider this a special situation that deserves Investors attention. The company has paid dividends for 249 consecutive quarters dating back to 1948. TS

Obama offers nuclear plant loan guarantee

President Barack Obama will announce next week loan guarantees for two new nuclear reactors, setting the stage for the first nuclear power plant to be built in the US in three decades.

According to an Obama administration official, the financial commitment will be made for the construction and operation of the two new reactors at a Southern Company plant in Burke, Georgia.      The company serves 4.4m customers across the southeast with a fleet including coal, hydroelectric and nuclear energy. “We’re still in a negotiation process,”’ said Valerie Hendrickson, Southern spokeswoman.

Southern was among four companies named last year as being considered to share $18.5bn in federal loan guarantees to build new nuclear power facilities.

Southern’s two planned units, which will cost $14bn, are due to be completed in 2016 and 2017.     http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/b43b685a-1836-11df-9256-00144feab49a.html
