Bye-Bye Miss American Blythe

A long, long time ago...

I can still remember

When they’d roll their contracts with a smile.

And I knew if I had my chance

That I could make those traders dance

And, we knew this could go on for a while.

March delivery made me shiver

No one wanted the paper I’d deliver.

Bad news on the doorstep;

I couldn’t take one more step.

I can’t remember if I cried

I knew I’d soon be a widowed bride,

But something touched me deep inside

The day the dollar died.

So bye-bye, Miss American Blythe.

Drove my chevy to the COMEX,

But the vaults were dry.

And them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

Singin’, "this’ll be the day the dollar dies.

"this’ll be the day that it dies."

Did you write the book of Keynes,

And do you have faith in unbacked paper,

If The Bernank tells you so?

Did you believe that QE 10,

Could save all our financial souls,

And can you teach me how to talk in Chinese slow?

Well, I knew that he’s in love with printing

‘Cause no one ever saw him minting.

He swore he’d prevent the deflation

"Only takes 15 minutes to stop inflation."

I was a lonely teenage broncin’ buck

With an empty tank in my pickup truck,

But I knew I was out of luck

The day the dollar died.

I started singin’,

"bye-bye, Miss American Blythe."

Drove my chevy to the COMEX,

But the vaults were dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day the dollar dies.

"this’ll be the day that it dies."

Oh, and while The Bernank was looking down,

The Turbo Timmy stole his Black Hawk Down.

The CFTC's courtroom was adjourned;

No verdict was returned.

So while Morgan continued the manipulation,

The Bernank practiced hyperinflation,

And we sang dirges in the dark

The day the dollar died.

We were singing,

"bye-bye, Miss American Blythe."

Drove my chevy to the COMEX,

But the vaults were dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day the dollar dies.

"this’ll be the day that it dies."

I met Silver Doctors who sang the blues

And I asked The Doc for some happy news,

But he just smiled and said it hit the fan today.

I went down to the general store

Where I’d used my fiat only days before,

But the man there said the dollar wouldn’t pay.

And in the street: the hedge funds screamed,

Traders cried, and China dreamed.

But not a word was spoken;

The markets all were broken.

And the three men I admire most:

The father, son, and the holy ghost,

They said “son you should have owned some gold.”

The day the dollar died.

And they were singing,

"bye-bye, Miss American Blythe."

Drove my chevy to the COMEX,

But the vaults were dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day the dollar dies.

"this’ll be the day that it dies."

They were singing,

"bye-bye, Miss American Blythe."

Drove my chevy to the COMEX,

But the vaults were dry.

Them good old boys were drinkin’ whiskey and rye

And singin’, "this’ll be the day the dollar dies.

"this’ll be the day that it dies."

One of my favorite songs.  Very good job, just like the original, your version made my soul ache just a little.  May I make a small suggestion?

Change "paper" to "greens" so it rhymes better.  Still makes sense too.

...Did you write the book of Keynes,

And do you have faith in unbacked greens...

How about a (Mercury) Comet for the vehicle instead of chevy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Comet

"Drove my Comet to the COMEX..."?
