Can't understand why girls like jeans that look used?

Justice Jeans are flying off the shelves of stores mostly because parents have no choice but to please their daughters, who say they need those jeans to look chill?

Back in the day when I was a kid , girls would not be caught walking out the door with clothes that looked used. While these days they exact opposite is true, they look for clothes with the used look on purpose?

Who am I to tell my daughter what to wear? She laughs at me and tells me I am old fashioned and don't know what looks chill?

Excuse me honey but I am only 45 years old, have things changed that much in 25 years?

Who am I to argue with a pre-teen girl? I will never win anyway so have a look at what she bought and tell me what you think of her taste:

Back when I was a kid, I didn't pay much attention to the jeans. I liked girls that looked used. :)

well one thing is for sure, these girls are making ASNA profits rally hard even in a time when majority retailers are lowering estimates, ASNA was a rare retailer that raised guidance this week.

I will put on my evolutionary psycology hat for a moment and try to answer this.

First we must establish that the life of a teenager is very regulated. Homework, activites, and social commitments consume nearly all time. This creates the subconsious perception of order and what I call "structured chaos" within the mind of the teenage girl. Even though they can recognize on the surface that say, going to a violin lesson may be beneficial on a college application, their subconsious mind would rather spend the time just doing things that bring immediate pleasure or more "real" goals, for example (texting boys, watching tv, personal hygiene, etc.) They identify that their parental authority figures are synonomous with the forced structure that they must endure everyday. In order to try and claim a small piece of control in their life they will choose to wear pants that look torn up because it is the opposite of the clean, neat, clothing that their parents wear. They thus, deferentiate themselves from their parents and send a clear signal to potential mates that they are NOT ensconced within the protective and controlling realm of their parents, and that this boosts their mating eligibility.

Face facts.   You're old.  

You need to look back 30 years to your comparable age frame, not 20 or 25.   20 years ago, acid wash jeans were extremely popular, and ripped jeans even had their day in the sun.   These things run in 20 year cycles.    Even bell-bottoms came back for a while.      Stuff like this was cool when I was a teenager (I'm 36).    I don't wear stuff like that now, but I certainly remember it.    If you think the trend is dumb or the price is extravagent, make your daughter earn the money to pay for them herself.
