CAPS can't do Arithmetic???

July 15, 2009 – Comments (8)

Yesterday, my CAPS paper trading account suffered a 65% decline in points in shares of MNLU.OB.  This is truly remarkable, especially in light of the fact that the stock remained unchaged for the day at $1.65 on something like 2,500 shares.  Today the stock is down to $1.40 and the arithmetic seems fine, but still no accounting for what occurred yesterday.  In case some are wondering, CAPS accounts should be taken with a grain of salt.  I frankly don't have time to chase their errors.

Welcome to the New Fascism.  It is called "ooooppps, my error", as they do nothing to fix the problem.  Coming soon to a Government Office near you!

AD...the stock split..hence you got those points - earlier where the CAPS system mistook the  split as a legitimate drop in stock price.

Thus yesterday they were taken back.....

 Hope this helps!

I think I like the earlier system better ;)

They correct so well for dividends, why they should be misreporting on splits so badly is ... an oversight?  It just throws the whole score way off, especially for that one ....

AD...there's very little automated notification on Bulletin board stocks - also sometimes there's misfeed on regular ones - hence they miss.

I would say accuracy ie automatic conversion rate is around 85%

We have several processes that capture splits and other corporate actions.  When we have advanced noticed of the coporate action we adjust picks without the type of scoring error you noticed.

When we don't have advanced notification of a split, we pick the split up within a day or two and correct things asap.

Sorry for the inconvenience. :(

Thnx Jake.  If you read the SEC Filing they are also declaring a 2:1 split, while at the same time awarding 2 shares for every one previously owned .....

It could be worse, my ranking went from 22 . something to just shy of 90 because of the AIG split. As much as l liked the 1000 point run up, I knew it would take a few (3) days to correct. CAPS will almost always fix these things, just not instantly. Even on "real" stocks.

Thnx GNUBEE.  That's a pretty funny story.  I had no idea reverse splits could do so well ... ;)
