CAPS Dogs Didn't Wilt in Summer Heat

We've been tracking how the stocks picked by the article series Dogs of the CAPS performs real-time here on CAPS since the start of the year.

Over the past five years, picking Dow Dogs that conformed to the old Foolish Four strategy and were rated 3-stars or better on CAPS has handily outperformed the FF, the DD, the DJIA, and the S&P 500. 

While July was a hot month, the CAPS Dogs managed to rise by 4.8%, though that did trail by fractional amounts the gains made by the indexes. However, most of the gains were realized by AT&T (NYSE: T), which surged 15% higher and accounted for almost all the improvement the group made, though Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) jumped 5% too. General Electric (NYSE: GE) and Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) inched slightly lower. 

We'll be keeping an eye on our CAPS Dogs through the month of August and see if they wed themselves to higher growth.

Each month I'll update the list of stocks that would be tracked by the strategy and we'll follow them here on this blog each month.

We've got a new entrant this month in JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) as Intel fell off the list momentarily.

It shouldn't really matter when an investor starts the strategy, though some have suggested there's a "January effect" that helps the strategy, but we'll be able to prove (or disprove) that by keeping tabs on those stocks that fall off  the list and those that are added.
