CAPS/Magic Formula Tracker Update

June 13, 2009 – Comments (2) | RELATED TICKERS: ESV , DWSN , BOLT

Updated performance results are posted at the CAPS/MFI Tracker site.  The duration of this rally has been surprising many, although some would argue it's caused by a collapse in the dollar more than by an economic recovery, for the U.S. at least.  Either way, no matter how much economic research one decides to do, the CAPS players, as a whole, have been doing a decent job providing their research, and their picks to those who may not have the time to do their own research.  For someone like me though, I need to have solid fundamentals - as provided by the Magic Formula type screen - as well as some dynamic guide towards appropriate sector diversification.  Ultimately there is no substitute for macroeconomic understanding, but it's reassuring to see that a carefully weighted universe of stock pickers has provided a decent mechanical substitute thus far.  Timing and rebalancing may prove to be more important than I had originally expected.

Very cool website!  I like the various trackers you put together....very informative.  I find it interesting that 3 Star CAPS stocks seem to perform the best across most of your trackers.  Wonder why?  I'm also a "fundamentals" guy.  I created a screener a few years back that focuses on the nuts and bolts of a company's statistical profile.  Just recently I built the website wallstreetbean.com for friends and family to start tracking the results from it.  It's by no means perfect, but it serves as another tool in the shed.

Thanks, I'll have to check that site out.  So far I'm still sort of grouping 3, 4 and 5-stars together in my mind.  I think we need to give this more time to play out before a consistent order appears.
