Several signs point to a return of casino capitalism, particularly in the commodity markets. You can follow me on Twitter.
I agree that options and futures trading in commodities (especially energy) is starting to display casino charateristics. As a side note, the current trading market isn't really the best because it will likely move sideways. For example, the price of crude oil should be declining and global events keep moving the market higher. However, the higher trends aren't enough to outweigh the loss in time value. Really big players can profit but my guess is that a great deal of options are being purchased as hedging tools.
