This appears to be my last post about the President’s health care bill because we will likely see it pass or fail in the next few days. I saw what would likely happen and posted a controversial blog describing the logical conclusion of the President’s bill:
Universal Health Care – The Final Solution to the Social Security and Medicare Problems April 29, 2009
Other pundits in the news media, mainly Fox News, have taken up some of these ideas, which appeared to have swayed public opinion since April, but this has not dissuaded the Democratic majority from trying to push this bill through. Other alternative ideas have been ignored, probably because they are not the administration’s ideas and therefore are unworthy of discussion. I posted a more popular blog concerning my ideas on health care reform:
An Open Letter to my Senators and Representatives. August 10, 2009
I think that the reality has hit home to many physician colleagues who are trying to plan their future. Most of these physicians are over 50 years old and would like to continue working but are faced with the same financial reality as any business. As their practice costs continue to rise and their reimbursements continue to fall alternatives to clinical practice become more appealing, as was noted in a recent survey:
The Medicus Firm Physician Survey: Health Reform May Lead to Significant Reduction in Physician Workforce
What if nearly half of all physicians in America stopped practicing medicine? While a sudden loss of half of the nations physicians seems unlikely, a very dramatic decrease in the physician workforce could become a reality as an unexpected side effect of health reform….

A radio interview from Boston is also included below:

As I noted in my original blog above, the basis of cost savings with this health care reform is real, but not because everyone will get inexpensive quality care, but because dramatically cutting the supply of medical providers will decrease assess to care and eventually lead to cost savings both for Medicare (fewer people being treated) and for Social Security (fewer recipients getting benefits).
So as the title of this blog implores: Choose wisely. If your Senators and Representative vote for this bill and you suffer the consequences, they do not deserve your vote in the next election.
