I think we can add this to the number of reasons that many of us are long SWHC (kudos to abitare for the inital call of course). Bill Tucker reports:
Now, of course, we know now that Barack Obama and Eric Holder are lying when they say that American guns account for the majority of crimes caused in Mexico, as this report detailed:
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2009/04/02/myth-percent-guns-mexico-fraction-number-claimed/ There's just one problem with the 90 percent "statistic" and it's a big one:
It's just not true.
In fact, it's not even close. By all accounts, it's probably around 17 percent.
What's true, an ATF spokeswoman told FOXNews.com, in a clarification of the statistic used by her own agency's assistant director, "is that over 90 percent of the traced firearms originate from the U.S."
But a large percentage of the guns recovered in Mexico do not get sent back to the U.S. for tracing, because it is obvious from their markings that they do not come from the U.S.
And for the doubters out there, I refer back to this post where I relayed an interview an email I received from a close friend who works for the Border Patrol:
The weapon of choice for cartel enforcers is the AK-47. This is an "assault weapon" easily available in the US. However, cartels are now arming themselves with frag grenades, RPGs, M-60s, .50cal machine guns, and .50cal barrett rifles. Those are most likely hemorrhaged from corrupt Mexican military units.
Think people. Put the pieces together. What is happening here?
