Cyanotech (NASDAQ:CYAN) Update .  Non-insider shareholder(s) urge for an acquisition citing failure(s) of current management and Board of Directors.

On April 05, 2011 NUTRA ingredients-usa released an article on Cyanotech's Astaxanthin

"Dr Oz and Oprah effect sends astaxanthin demand ‘skyrocketing’, claims Cyanotech".

There are several allegedly negligent and reckless mistakes made by Cyanotech Management and its Board of Directors here 1) Cyanotech did nothing to leverage / capitalize on this article 2) No one knows about this article nor is it referenced on Cyanotech's already alleged shareholder/customer hostile website. Cyanotech management remains a tragedy 3) Any insider trades made since said non-formally non-fully disclosed claims may be in violation of (including but not limited to) SEC Rule 10b-5, Insider Trading Sanctions Act of 1984.

In this article, Cyanotech vice president, sales and marketing Bob Capelli, said: “Since astaxathin was called out on the Dr. Oz show by Dr. Joseph Mercola as the ‘number one supplement you’ve never heard of that you should be taking’, we’ve seen it [demand] skyrocket...While rival Fuji was increasing capacity in Sweden, it has just closed down its US astaxanthin facility in Maui, Hawaii, claiming its Swedish operation was more scalable, while fellow producer Yahama Motors has also closed its production facility in Japan citing “difficulties in achieving profitability” and “limited market size and future growth prospects”, pointed out Capelli.

“Fuji shut down its Maui facility earlier this year and we estimate that [Israeli astaxanthin producer] Algatechnologies [which is increasing capacity this year] can only produce half of what we can at our facility.

“The closure of these facilities [Yamaha, Fuji] further validates that Cyanotech is the worldwide leader in astaxanthin production, technology and marketing...”

On June 21st 2011 Natural Marketing announced Natural Health Marketing Releases Astaxanthin- A Powerful New Antioxidant 65 Times More Potent Than Beta Carotene  and picked up by Health and Beauty on July 2nd (see below).

"...The 21st Annual Meeting on Carotenoid Research held on September 6th and 7th 2007 at the media center, Osaka University, Japan announced that researchers at Fuji and Osaka Universities had discovered a number of startling health benefits of this amazing supplement.

They found that Astaxanthin was 800 times better that CoQ10, 75 times better than Alpha Lipoic Acid, 500 times better than Green Tea, and 6,000 times better than Vitamin C at quenching the active oxygen species responsible for susceptibility to ultra violet rays, causing skin and eye damage. It may therefore play an important role in slowing the onset of these conditions or preventing them altogether..."

Other findings suggest the importance of Astaxanthin for energy, speedier recovery from heavy exercise, prevention of Type 2 Diabetes and weight loss.

Note: Bioxanthin (per the above article)  is not Cyanotech's BioAstin.

This amateur and allegedly shareholder value/marketing challenged and reckless CYAN Board of Directors and Management are able to post a very embarrassing / clumsy video of their Presidential E-Award for exports, but allegedly provide interviews of information which has not been fully/formally disclosed while failing to actually create shareholder value (1994 - present).

Note: Cyanotech has no twitter nor Facebook presence...precisely Cyanotech's audience and viral marketing incubator strongly suggesting that no one there gets it.

Time for a new owner.

CYAN down 9.1% on 1.36X ADV (3 mo). Company still can't get their act together regarding analyst meetings, investor conferences, quarterly earnings conference calls. Trading an average of $40k/day. All symptomatic of a lack of management depth and or a non-insider shareholder hostile mindset. Still running this company as if it were privately-held. Allegedly negligent and unacceptable.

* With all due respect the look and feel researching Cyanotech's website's is very discouraging. Cyanotech stil looks like a poorly run family-owned business which looks more and more out of date/touch with reality as each day passes. The above websites look more like the x-ray spec ads4. in the back of magazines from the 1950's. Thomas Chen cannot believe this is professional nor accurately reflect Cyanotech's recent substantive accomplishments, as noted on this blog. Get your act together Cyanotech. Look like a real innovative, disruptive technology/biotech player.
