Defending TheHypnoToad

Fool Community,

There are bloggers on TMF that love to post rambling stories about any number of things. Then immediately they post three or four comments to their original work. Before you know it inside ten minutes they have crowded out many of the new comments and blogs belonging to other Fools. I have a problem with this behavior, wish it would change. From what I understand TheHypnoToad has been reported for being a such a blog monster, which I find hard to understand. I see one, maybe two at the most, posting from him in a day. And for those of you that find his simple interjections of "All glory the Hypnotoad" into the blogosphere to be more than you can bear I say that you need to sort out your priorities. Ignore the offending posts and go about your life.

I recently signed up for CAPS, but I've been reading CAPS for a while before hand. I signed up for substance. It's obvious to me if all CAPS members were to posted the same one line comment - all glory to ourselves, we wouldn't have an investment discussion board or any other kind of discussion board because there would be no substance. We may not agree with each others thoughts or ideas regarding investing or like how those thoughts and ideas are presented, but everyone here is at least capable of writing something related to investing.

Rock on Cato! (And as I've said elsewhere, I think it's funny and harmless and just a strange thing that occasionally pops up in Fooldom.)

Hi Workfor,

Think of TMF as a nice steak. The meat is the substance, but the fat adds juiciness and flavor.  TheHypnoToad and others are like the fat. Some like it, some don't. It is up to you to cut it off, set it aside or eat it.

If I'm ordering a steak, and it's full-o-gristle...I'm sending it back to the kitchen and letting the maitre'd know that I won't be eating there if that's what they intend to serve. If the restaurant then decides to start serving a better cut of meat...do you get offended?

Sometimes Hypno goes for weeks without posting, but sometimes they are more frequent.  Most of us consider it meant as a point of levity in this stressful investing business.  My suggestion is a compromise.  How about allowing the post no more than once a week. Hypno could pick the time during the week that he/she felt the post was "needed".  Since posts only stay on the leader board for a few hours at most before a dozen others scroll it off, it's unlikely to be noticed, let alone offend those who think Hypno is "wasting" their time or cluttering the boards, (or getting pitch recs and the complainer is jealous because he/she isn't).

If you rely on the blogs on TMF perhaps you should think of it as a potluck: You get what's brought. If you are a subsciber to one of their newsletters then think of it as Delmonico's: Give the maitre'd  a wedgie and call the manager everything but a child of God.

I originally was going to let this drop but the kids need the dime. :)

The point was more that TMF decided what was in their own best interest. Who are we to say they can't censor or ban folks for whatever reason they want?

The prevailing logic in the Toad Defense appears to be that TMF should not give in to complaints. Following that logic through, the Toad Defenders should be horrified if TMF were to now allow Toad to post...giving in to the Toad Defense complainers.

Agreed...and here's another one!

retract my earlier comment that Hypno should be allowed to post once a week.  I think he/she should be left alone entirely. The 134 posts he/she made in all of 2009 show enough restraint. See Also on the value Hypno adds.  (Careful, clinking on the below link is risking that the contents might be spam.  Spam in the definition that you might not agree, so therefore you wasted your time.

You fools are driving me crazy. Now there's nothing to read about, 'cept' about how there's nothin' to read about.

If we put this much energy into writing code, we would have many new caps features.

Expanding the "Most Recommended Post" box to 10 daily, weekly, etc, would be VERY EASY and help 'fix' this nonsense. And making it impossible to post twice on the blog front page at the same time  should be easy too..

HypnoToad is a 93+ rated YES MAN with only 37 picks over 3 years, with only two closes. His portfolio has integrity. Good solid picks, not a bunch of leveraged junk or impossible trades. And if that doesn't deserve consideration then; i don't understand.

In my opinion he's one of the best players on caps.

Perhaps he should write "All Glory To the HypnoToad's PICKS!". He's just being to subtle for you fools.
