The Dinkytown Hollywood Video rented out its final flick on Saturday night.
On Monday morning, a semi-trailer pulled up to empty out the store.
Irv Hershkovitz, co-owner of Dinkytown Properties, the company that owns the building, said he received no notification before the closing. While he said he hasn’t spoken to a Hollywood Video representative yet, he expects it was the result of declining sales.
The video store’s Dinkytown location had been open almost 11 years and had six years left on its lease, Hershkovitz said.
About a year ago, Hollywood Entertainment Corporation filed bankruptcy and closed 800 stores across the United States, Hershkovitz said.
“But they chose to keep this one open because it was doing well,” he said.

Irv,
I guess not well enough......sales must have really tanked over the past year.
What is happening to Dinkytown is happening all across America.
New Home Sales are DOWN 80%
Auto Sales are DOWN 50%
Office Sales in Manhatten DOWN 90%
Caterpillar Sales Down 50%
Steel Sales DOWN 50%
Corporate Tax Receipts DOWN 60%
Commercial Real Estate Contruction Grinding to a HALT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And remember, many of the jobs scheduled to be cut and businesses scheduled to shut down are just shutting down now.....we havn't even started to feel the effects yet.....but you are prepared. Don't listen to those doom and gloomers....it is not the end of the world, just the end of the world as you know it.
Ask yourself, what is the American economy if the Americans are not consuming???????
At this rate, pretty soon America will be a Dinkytown....unless we restructure.
