Do you really care about investing?
I kind of doubt that this applies to the folks that are consistently on CAPS and who are reading CAPS blogs. But the simple truth is that most people would rather be doing an endless number of things besides investing. Just take a gander at the most popular stories on Google News. Here are a few as I check right now:
- Kevin Smith too fat to fly
- More flak for Tiger Woods
- The unfortunate death on the luge course
- Joe the Plumber
- And (ugh!) Heidi Montag
The closest thing to investing news on that most popular list is news on the Greece debt criris, and that's way down towards the bottom.
The most emailed stories on NYT are more highbrow -- focusing a lot on politics and science as opposed to pop culture -- but investing still isn't exactly a focus (though Intuitive Surgical fans may enjoy the article about robotic surgery).
Anyway, what's the point? The point is that investing is still important and even for those people who don't really care for investing as an activity/hobby. So what do they do? That's what I tried to answer with my article over the weekend.
