AT &T cutting 12,000 jobs
Telecom giant slashing workforce, announces charge.

DuPont cutting 2,500 positions; 4,000 contractors to go

CSFB slashing thousands..........Retail same store sales down double digits for many even with massive discounting.

If  we maintain the same policy direction.....20% unemployment is just around the corner.  How many people do you need to build bridges and pave roads??????  Who is going to pay for all that construction??????

Whatever you think you have or don't have.....don't stress too much......things are going to change dramatically.......no one knows  if a  dollar  will be a dollar........whether a loaf of bread might cost $10,000.......we are in unchartered waters with huge waves forming.........time to grab your surfboard and ride this tsunami whereever it takes you.

20% unemployment just around the corner? Wasn't it you that also said we would probably have 10% unemployment by summer of this year?

Friday's market will be interesting with the jobs report. It's less stressful when you expect a disaster, and the disaster is unfolding.

I dunno, this bear can't see much past 10% unemployed, and sees a solid turnaround in the economy by 2010.

Isn't it interesting how in the USA we'd consider 20% unemployment THE END OF THE WORLD, while many underdeveloped countries would outright kill to have that much of their population productively employed? Rule of law, democracy, and capitalism have gotten us pretty spoiled! Let's not discount the power of these things to help us ride whatever tsunamis arrive, and to thrive once this period of instability is over.

Real unemployment is around 12%. The current figure does not include people who have stopped looking for work.

Dino,

If it wasn't for guys like you, the ride would have been nowhere near as rewarding.

By the way, I just brewed a couple kegs of pale ale and pilsner respectively.  They should be ready for bottling in a couple weeks.  By that time, my goal is to be ranked at 100% on CAPS.

If I get there,  I might be inclined to have a few with you sometime.

I'd love to hang out with Sam Adams and George Washington!  I guess I did way too much in my earlier years!  This is going to be nastly.  Very nasty.
